A Hollow Home

I had a son once,
He had a laugh bright as the sun,
One day he went out to have some fun,
And was taken from this world by a man with a gun,

I had a daughter once,
She was daddy’s little girl,
But now she’s grown and moved away,
She even missed her mother’s funeral,

I had a wife once,
She had eyes blue as the sky,
She always wore a smile in life,
And when the cancer took her she never once did cry,

I had a family once,
Now it’s all but gone,
The living don’t even call anymore,
And the dead have left my dreams,

Abandoned and alone it seems,
They’ve finally left me to my fate,
To occupy this hollow home,
And fill it up with hate.

This is a grand picture of the life that sometimes is given to us where everything moves away and as you say even the neighbours will become distant.
This is from our evolution and we cannot change those instincts in people. BUT we can do something about that loneliness that is there, by going out and being a person again, it is hard to take that first step as a child but once we do then all the meanings will return as will friends.
I can see by your profile that this is not a self portrait, I am so glad maybe just a new place where you have a moments solitude, Yours Ian.T

There are a million reasons to believe in yourself,
So find more reasons to believe in others..

I am so glad to see you posting. An interesting take on life. Is this about anyone you know? Keep on writing. Happy Valentines Day!

Welcome back. I hope this is not autobiographical. There are way too many who find themselves alone in late life through no fault of their own. I don't critique the 1st poem I read by a writer but will be ready for the next lol.......stan
