Of Tragedy and Triumph

I rest in a cocoon of night
in solitude I found my soul,
when tragedy and triumph visit
here I greet them, as familiar

Equally, they have visited
these friends sparked my joy
or sung tears from my heart
I feel both in the moments, but,
I found I must bless them both
send them on their way,
for they shall come again

when my visitors are sadness
knowing this I knew of love
when I was victorious, I memorised
the sweet taste of accomplishment,
and then on dull days of nothingness
I remembered the taste, feeling the love

Avoidance will bring numbness,
the spirit will no longer quicken
the heartbeat will decrease,
to know both is to be alive

Open to the hum
never knowing who'll call
but surprise in the unknown
is what keeps me vibrating

Hello, Jayne,
Accepting and acknowledging the yin and yang of life will lead to less suffering overall, especially when, as your words suggest, we remember the taste and the feeling of love. Wonderful thoughts of wisdom!
L

I have had more than my share of joy and pain, more pain than joy to be honest but it makes the joy so much more the sweeter Imo.

thanks so much for your kind comment I really appreciate it.

Your poem is a wonderful statement of wise insights I like the opening stanza "I rest in a cocoon of night" . I love this it rings true with me and the rest of the poem of acceptance of the visiting "spirits" of sadness and numbness and others is equally familiar to me. I like that you identify spirits in this way as I think this is the proper interpretation of what spirits are.

Loved it!

I thank you so much for your insight and knowledge, and your wisdom. it's not always easy to convey in words what I want to say, but I felt when I finished this one, I had said what I wanted to say. Not something that always comes across I am still learning like everyone else.

I appreciate the read and your kind words.

I think the wisdom is deep in this, the message is told simply but in your own inimitable style. I've said this before, your poetry chimes something in me and I always "feel" and sometimes "hear" it's though the words are secondary and the words ring in me.

I have today off I am going to finish the poem you helped me with, If you get time check it out. I'll post this afternoon.

Love from L&J

Thanks so much for your kind words, it's good that you have some time off, it sucks that you're sick but maybe it will allow you to get some reading and writing done, I hope you're feeling better this tonight, I imagine you're both just trying to keep cool, today was so hot.

love and hugs to you both OJ

Oh my. That’s gorgeous. Like that was all I needed to hear. I read the rest of course. Such a beautiful picture of patience.

Thats how I have to face them over the last 20 or so years it's been a rollercoaster of both.

More so the pain bit in the last 9 years but I have learned to be the mistress of it not the other way round, for the time being. One day it will win but for the time being I am on top of it to a point.

kind regards Jayne

I cannot tell you how very much I love your word choices...you weave a thread of spun words. I would love to hear your voice! there is so much sagacity in your poems. they make me want to place a garland of flowers around your neck and sit at your knee.
