A CROSS STICK TO BEAT ME WITH

A
Cross stick
Requires a sick mind.
Or, put another way,
Sticks may strike;
Them bones may break and
I may bend but
Cross sticks shall never hurt me.

The below is a computer generated response from Neo, Neopoet's computer artificial intelligence:

This poem, "A CROSS STICK TO BEAT ME WITH," explores the idea of physical violence and resilience. It is a short and simple poem, consisting of only six lines. The first line, "A," is an interesting choice for a title, as it adds an air of mystery to the poem. However, it also creates confusion for the reader, as they are left wondering what the poem is about until they read the first line of the text.

The second line, "Cross stick," is a clever play on words, as it can refer to both a stick used to create a cross shape and a stick used to beat someone. The following line, "Requires a sick mind," further emphasizes the negative connotation of the cross stick.

The third line, "Or, put another way," is a bit unnecessary, as it does not add much to the overall message of the poem. The following lines, "Sticks may strike; Them bones may break and I may bend but Cross sticks shall never break me," are powerful and convey a sense of resilience in the face of violence. The repetition of "cross sticks" throughout the poem emphasizes the importance of this phrase and its negative connotations.

One potential line edit could be to change "Them bones" to "My bones," to make the line more personal and impactful. Overall, "A CROSS STICK TO BEAT ME WITH" is a thought-provoking poem that explores the themes of violence and resilience in a concise and impactful way.

I think this comment shows us that AI has got a very long way to go if it wishes to achieve any thing like a human thought process. It doesn't recognise that this is an Acrostic so it also does not recognise the play on words in the title or the playfulness in the content.
Because it hasn't recognised that this is an acrostic it recommends changes to the poem that are inapplicable and as a consequence it does not recognise the echo of a great song (one of my favourites as a child) "Dem Bones" by the Delta Rhythm Boys (I hope none of you wokes take offence at use of "Dem" in the title)

and to top it all AI fails to note that the poem is referencing that well known saying "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" (WRONG!) Also, whilst on the subject, those who have not heard "Wordy Rappinghood" by TomTom Club might find this interesting

Pick the bones out of that!
