cassettes

images swirl in my mind,
the past, the present
mashed up in one continuous rewind
Magnetic tape
analog escape
from digital rape
the cassettes
lye stagnant
in a box
under my bed
buried,
as the dead.

Somehow it lacks emotional oomph for me. What am I missing?

hi beau,

I like the poem as it is, i appreciate your feedback, but once the poem is created it is created, your advice will be taken into the next poem or poems i create, when i write I'm not worried wether it will relate or not, it either does or it doesn't. And it really is just about the cassettes in a box under my bed, as the dead, and yes this line eventually led you to think that we all end up dead in a box, so my job was done as it did provide you that very thought ."Try to make the reader consider something like how we'll be just like those cassettes one day; our mark on the world will eventually be erased and our influence will be indistinguishable." I don't need to try as you already thought it..thanks for your feedback.

have a nice day.

As I use audio cassetts every day if you don't want them send them to me lol I find them very useful but would love to be able to put them onto the comp.
I have one of those Tape to Comp machines, but I cannot correct the audio level when transferring the audio over so am stuck with them.
I need to transpose 120 odd audio tapes to the comp each of 90 minutes.
No I am not going to sleep on it lol.
One day the task will be done and I will maybe go to something new.
I find with digital you have two options Yes or No I have chosen No..
In my attic I have a wonderful modern Machine that is called a "Video Writer"
it uses Yes "Floppy Discs and prints on old heat type "Fax paper" if you can remember that, What a wonderful world we live in now with 3d TV and screens you just touch, what a heaven here on earth.
I am now going back to my Spectrum and play "Hobbit" as it is a challenge that no one has completed as yet..... Yours Ian.T

There are a million reasons to believe in yourself,
So find more reasons to believe in others..

Id like to have one of those machines, i have a lot of good music on those tapes and really good movies as well. i like digital as well but i feel something is lacking, it doesn't give the same warm fuzzy feeling as analog does..analog has character and it still baffles me how the music or film is recorded on a tape...anyways...soon we will be writing poems on the death of digital lol..who knows what the future brings.
thanks have a nice day.

I have many audio players and you have just done me a favour as I was looking up my Walkman on the net I see it has also a radio attachment that use to fit in the cassette holder so I will see if I can find one.
My Son bought me the WM55 from a temple sale in Japan he paid $ 0.50 for it, a stereo cassette player and it has Dolby NR fitted, the reproduction is top line, and I use it a lot two AAA batteries and away you go lol.
WM55 with CTP-1A radio unit...Take care out there, Yours Ian.T

tremendous work

skill of this is the transition leading from beginning to end
of this poem Im lucky I have travelled much in life
and am extremely well read.. many of my freinds and
contacts I worked with for recorded much of their progress
or decline on media notepads etc and these were what
literally were gone through in the end.. Cassettes were
the personalized 'self station" broadcast beyond transistor
portability The small dictation units ran small loops of
tape and like the digital versons are expensive today

I have cookie tins of cds and small notepads of poems
and thoughts last cd i burned with personal mix was
2007...its like being on a space voyage.. try finding an
old reel to reel machine and setting up two and running
a loop between them and recording on one and playing
on the other...I did this with freinds long ago...Read poetry
and have music nearby....each time it passes it picks up
more frequency to put down on the magnetic tape
scotch taped them together fantastic effects
my old walkman is long gone with all my cassettes
from the eighties i mixed my own and each song of
course had its own imagery the box under the bed
was a casket of experience set aside collected and
played to death the experience until its a ghost
and I still have my VHS machine

I like how you write your poetry
not "Dead and buried"
or "Buried dead"

buried as the dead....love this complexity and natural
talent that you have

nice to meet you MDT

Mr Wolf

Nice to meet you as well Mr. Wolf,

yes, the tapes are symbolic of the past....still there, but kept away, forgotten but still present, like memories :)
Thanks, your feedback is greatly appreciated...

laters, Mr Wolf.
