I Like to Bob my Head in Cafes

I like to bob my head in cafes
drinking my turmeric tea
and banana toast
with honey
and peanut butter
while Toto plays Africa
over the speakers
in the ceiling.

I like to remember who I was
who I am
and who I can be someday,
again.

Individually, and in a different space
maybe these all are less
than the sum of their parts.
But here at this counter
in front of this window overlooking Detroit Avenue
it all comes together in just the right way;
reminds me of Cambridge and the Phoenix days,
Tammy and Buddha and CC Arshagra.

I take a sip
and look out at the grey sky and concrete
and remember that even the colorblind
must find their color in the world.
It’s reflected there, across Detroit
in the second story windows
from the building I’m sitting in now.,
through Forbici,
on the first floor.

Review Request (Intensity):
I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back
Review Request (Direction):
What did you think of my title?
How was my language use?
What did you think of the rhythm or pattern or pacing?
How does this theme appeal to you?
How was the beginning/ending of the poem?
Is the internal logic consistent?
