You may disagree

Bah humbug !!
Centuries old fakery,
A Christian con job.

Celebration based on blind faith.
A kind of historical Chinese whispers.
An effort to make life tolerable.

Originally the pagan's welcome to the sun.
Highjacked to attract the faithful.
It's progression a mixture of religion
and the victorians.

Commercialised up to the hilt,
A huge marketing ploy
to part us from our money.

Where is the joy ?

You won't get a disagreement from me, and from many
in today's world, so I think the title could be less inclusive,
like, You May disagree, or something along those lines.
You have an extra "part" in the last line, and I won't say
anything about the misspellings as you've already noted
an edit is on the way.

Somewhere along the way, some words have lost their
meanings in part, like "truth", as most believe what they
believe, and to them it is the truth but not necessarily
true in the real sense of the word.

enjoyed the read Lou

Thought I would get lynched may still lol

I'm not mad about the title but it's your write and just a passing thought
lmao " happy fake day " lol,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,zigs x

I salute anyone who breaks the rules in the interest of art and great poetry writing just as much as I admire poets who craft meter and verse within the confines of good grammar. Walk the tight rope or jump from it and see if you can fly.

Zigs thank you for reading, commenting and liking.

The joy in the season is not in the commercialism, the exact date, or specific religion but in the good of a life lived in an attempt to do unto others as you would have them do unto you. A message that has been lost and which is a good one regardless of or lack of religion....................scribbler ( not to be taken as a lynching lol )

Lynch me or not, we are both entitled to our own opinions .

If you believe in god in the first place, and treat christmas day as Christ's birthday, you can't even be sure you're celebrating the correct day, as there are those who say he was born in September.

Of course we are and I did not mean to imply otherwise. Even those whose belief is not believing have a place in this tired old world................scribbler

The earliest record of this was actually written
by Confusious, in 1400 bc, but there are many
variations of the same thing in most religions,
the message has never been lost, it is people
that decide that others aren't worthy of it, whether
it be for religious, gender, or ethnic differences,
which should have no bearing at all on how one
would view another being.

Lou, your poems lend themselves to scrutinizing one's core belief systems. And that is a good thing.

So, it's been a rocky road between Barry (a Christian who believes in biblical prophecy and other things I won't go into)...and myself, who pretty much fly by the seat of my pants, so to speak.

However, no matter how diverse our ways, it is love alone that brought us together to love one another and perhaps to bridge our differences.

I see that we are all self-fulfilling prophecies unto ourselves. Stories we create in our minds. And so are handed down... with a little of this and a little of that. However, as Richard pointed out Universal truths bridge
time, history and culture.

Not all people adhere to the commercialisation,
and the great excuse for a party, all people love that,
but as you know I share your disgust of much that
ensues at this time of year; falseness as the Hooded
Stranger said, fits exactly, greed and many other forms
of avarice too, but all in all the colourful 'happening' is
enjoyed by so many that it is a great way to counteract
the dark season. That I enjoy.

Yes the GRAND excuse for a good time by all the family,
one time in this modern age (computers taking much!!)
when some, at least of the family come together.

Long live the party and celebration of life,
however it is clothed.

Love Ann - where it is magical in the snow, I wore bells on
my ankles this Christmas, like the Indian dancers,
to remind us of the horses and sleighs;
I was fetched by one such from the station, I was 10,
in 1950, wrapped in furs and we jingled over the hills
to the farm in the crisp snow with the stars shining overhead.
Magical atmosphere that was.

Good health one and all,Ann!..,

"The image of yourself which you see in a mirror Is dead,
but the reflection of the moon on water, lives." Kenzan.
