Lost Love

By: Alex Tanner

Should I recall those blissful times
When we like climbing flowers entwined;
Our blossoms scented evenings air
As Love and Lust forsook our cares.

Your laugh was soft and gentle,
A butterflies wings in spring,
Dancing on the sunbeams
Enough to make me sing.

Eyes so bright they sparkled
Diamonds on moonlit snow;
Flashing hither and thither
To make my pulse race so.

We held each other gentle
Yet tight so not to break,
Though deep, our love could never last,
Different paths our lives would take.

For fleeting months we tarried,
Each time we met we knew
This may be the last time
For lovers hours are few.

If I love ten thousand women
Tis you I will recall;
You gave yourself so willing,
For your passion I did fall.

On black nights as the wind howls,
As I lie in a bed so cold,
Your soft voice echoes 'cross the years
To warm my lonely soul.

two dwell post meridian

under the shade
of the parkland trees
the grass fades
in its dark embrace
the birds go about
unknowing
filling the air with
their song

concrete crack
asphalt track
my wheels turn
chain click
air through hair
and headstrong

reverie rivers
of the script voice
soothing
pleasing
angels of mercy
touching
letter by letter

In a dream
we meet
keeping
alight the flame
we need

new what! love

A new kind of love

A new born child
is like this
doesn't know
a world does exist,
in any case
what a world is 'tis
not known
'tis bliss

she winks and wakes
and then has a shake
asks for milk
she awakes
O miss

the mist of darkness
has been wiped away
the sunrises
like each and every day
and
the galaxy and moon go away
then it’s only my life and yours

Winter blues

The sun hides its watery shame
In sullen skies of moody hues
Shrouding us in fear and blame
Storm clouds spreading winter blues

seasonal

Oh Autumn

Every year you come
I nearly succumb
to you every now and then
as in September
seasons you
strip all nature
why do you

still autumn
all love you
as you is just a cushion
between summer's
warmth
and
winters cold breeze

and
as snows come
all freeze
Autumn
you make me sneeze

Sideshow

I like the pain,
in some small way.
I kind of like
how it smells and tastes,
and I wear it
because I've got nothing else.

It's amazing how healthy I can feel
when I'm especially unhealthy.
Indeed, it's quite comforting
how uncomfortable I am.

And I have friends,
or old congregants
who view me
as a sideshow.
They'll ask me out to lunch
or drinks
so they can hear the latest gossip
or "my side of things"
before going back to center ring.

MISS CHERISHED

The wind sizzles
the decorator trees
reach past the second
floor windows
There are stars
There will be a moon
its light is on the wall
on the mural hanging
by framing wire

A white fan hisses
its voice..already its
putting me too sleep
but each intrusive puff
of wind of the west
knocks the closed
blinds against the
frame of Her window
drawing me up from
the well of reverie

Tears

What is a tear but proof that the soul cries.
Today I felt sorrow for the less fortunate,
Driven to the brink of existence and smothered with lies.
Tormented by the reality of life’s inequities and berated
to the lowest level of living and existence.
Does a tear wash away the hurt and pain or
Salvage a wounded soul and lift a sad heart?
Tears are man’s escape from the internal suffering that
Is too hard to bear and can only be relieved with a gift,
like rain on a hot summer’s days cooling the parched earth.
