You've got the blues

When you're down and out
with nothing left to lose.
You’ve got no home,
no vocation to pursue.
I’m sure that you have
got the blues.
When you have no friends,
no one is going to take
your side.
The police show up
and want to take you for a ride.
You can’t run and there's
no place to hide
and you just want
to break down and cry.
You still have something
deep down inside.
Just ask Dr. Frankl ,
you can still choose.
how you see the world.
There's still love
deep down inside.
So let it out,
let it shine on through!
I know it's not easy,
but it's something you can do.
To ease the pain
of these worthless blues!

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet's computer artificial intelligence:

The poem "You've got the blues" presents a narrative of despair and hope, using the metaphor of the 'blues' to depict a state of sadness and depression. The poem's structure is largely free verse, with no consistent rhyme scheme or meter. This lack of structure can be seen as reflecting the chaotic and unpredictable nature of the speaker's emotional state. However, a more consistent structure could potentially enhance the poem's readability and rhythm.

The poem's language is generally straightforward and accessible, which allows the reader to easily understand the speaker's feelings and experiences. However, the poem could benefit from the use of more vivid and unique imagery to create a more engaging and immersive experience for the reader. For example, instead of stating "When you're down and out with nothing left to lose", the speaker could use a metaphor or simile to convey this feeling in a more creative and impactful way.

The reference to Dr. Frankl adds an interesting dimension to the poem, suggesting a philosophical or psychological perspective on the speaker's situation. However, this reference may not be understood by all readers, and could potentially be expanded upon or explained in more detail to ensure that its significance is clear.

The poem's theme of resilience in the face of adversity is conveyed through the speaker's insistence that "There's still love deep down inside of you" and the encouragement to "let it shine on through". This message could be further emphasized and developed throughout the poem to create a more cohesive and powerful narrative.

Finally, the poem's ending could be more impactful. The final line "To ease the pain of these worthless blues!" seems to suggest a resolution or conclusion, but it could be more effective if it offered a more profound or surprising insight related to the poem's themes.

Hello, Leslie,
Definitely many causes for the blues, here. Lonely, sad language and scenarios - "you just want to break down and cry." But I'm glad there's an inspiring ending to ease these blues!
Thank you!
L

***Came back to read again. Love the build up that leads to these "worthless blues." Very nice!
