Like a breeze that blows across a cornfield
That softly caresses the leaves
To which they respond in whisper and song
Like a warm ray of sunshine
That appears after a storm
For life itself has been a storm
That has uprooted my hopes and left them
Upside down or blown them
So far away
To even think about them
Is to grapple in the dark

The full moon is rising tonight
For a while I will have upon my face
The look of a ten year old
For in its light I am but a child
The burden in my heart is a tad lighter
And my shoulders can straighten again
Life becomes a mite simpler
For just a little while I am neither broke
Nor broken
I haven't been beaten and thrown out
Given false promises and hopes
Or had my heart smashed against a wall

Tonight the breeze will blow
It will be as cold as my heart
And as empty as the place
Where my love should be
But the full moon will rise
And for a while I will forget all this
