Secret Desires...

He sees himself gliding
across the floor with grace
Footloose and fancy-free
in their movie place

An angel wrapped in beauty
dresses made of silk
Her thoughts trapped in the script
her skin white as creamy milk

The T.V. shows the race is done
he is a driving ace
He took the waving, checkered flag
today he's in first place

The hero is a little boy
with his dog, he saves the day
They catch the villain just in time
Everybody says "Hooray"!

He's middle-aged, thinning hair
but she's lovely as a queen
She looks at him, starry-eyed
sees him as he's been

Hidden desires, the need to belong
imagine I'm the one
Movies, stories on T.V.
Oh Boy, this is such fun

Review Request (Intensity):
I want the raw truth, feel free to knock me on my back
Review Request (Direction):
What did you think of my title?
What did you think of the rhythm or pattern or pacing?
How does this theme appeal to you?
How was the beginning/ending of the poem?
Last few words:
This poem is the result of a conversation that I had with a dear friend about the need to watch certain movies and programs repeatedly. I told them that the way I saw it, was that people envision themselves as the hero/heroine and live vicariously through such mediums.
Editing stage:

Most people have a hero from film or tv past or present, that they'd like to be. I guess the best story writer directors know this. So they can shape hero's or villains so as to get best response, harmless time away from the struggles of every day life. Great fun and you got it spot on in the poem. Regards Roscoe....

Roscoe Llane,

Religion will rip your faith off, and return
for the mask of disbelief that's left.

As I wrote this, I envisioned a elderly man who has never been on a dance floor in his life, his hands rough, with dirt under his nails from working at a menial job. His hair is mussed and he sits in front of the T.V. watching "Footloose" while the world around him disappears. He will probably never read this poem, [never has read any so far as I know] so I am reasonably sure that he will never know how I have characterized him. I like him as a person and wouldn't want to embarrass him. His wife, says that anytime that movie is on, he will watch it. At first, I thought; how silly for a man of his age and background to be obsessed with a movie like that. Then I thought about the movies and shows that I watch and understood, that in our minds, we all have the capacity to dream and wish that we could be someone else... if only for a little while. ~ Gee.

for anyone who will read it! I find it particularly pleasing that some people find my stories good enough to comment on and/or critique. I love an audience; as anyone who really knows me will testify to. Of course, I am shy about getting up in front of people I don't know and reading or performing, until the first round of applause; then, you are no longer a stranger and I love you like family! Thanks for the read and comments, ~ Geezer.
