THE DAYS OF OUR LIVES

Like a flower that grows by the roadside
That blossoms with the dawn but is gone by twilight
Like a song, a ballad, a tale
That begins with a smile and ends with a tear
So are the days of our lives

So, I will sit and sing a little song
Reminiscing of the gone days and making wishes for the coming ones
Bringing to memory tales learnt by the fireside
For I have lived and I have learnt
I have loved and I have lost
But the book of life continues to unfold

And memory takes me back to the land of the golden sands
Of the low lying hills and silent meadows
I sit and prepare myself for the journey is long
Two decades and a few months over to be precise
A beauty to behold, a thing to marvel at
It's a journey of falling and of getting up again
Of shedding tears and wiping them away
Remaining hopeful and facing the coming day with a smile
For when the day is new, the slate is clean
And those who have tripped before will now run with caution

Like a song of love
Written to bring both a tear and a smile to the reader's face
So be the days of our lives
With the pain and joy so intertwined
Sometimes there be no telling them apart

For those of us who have loved and lost
Walked through a darkness so deep
we never thought we'd see the light again
Lived through so much pain
Having to smile and "be okay"
While inside there is a corrosion eating you away
Alive
We accept that these are the days of our lives
And we continue to trudge on

But I will sit and sing a little song
And maybe bring to mind tales learnt by the fireside
From those who walked the path before we did
They say no night lasts forever
And that after the winter comes springtime
Flowers blossoming and birds singing cute little songs
A new chapter. A new beginning

I will sit and watch them go by
Like a cool summer breeze
Like a nice song on the radio
Or a whisper of love. A giggle
The days of our lives

This has been a really pleasurable read. I like the theme so it speaks to me. I’ve been working on myself and I’m in the space where I’m seeking out validation and meaning a bit less and sort of just letting things come in due time. That doesn’t mean I don’t search for validation or support but I’m also done trying to get blood from a stone and so my circle of friends is pretty small and I enjoy that. I know there’s a handful of people that I can got to with just about anything and they’re gonna listen because they want me to succeed. As opposed to having hundreds of friends to small talk with. Social situations where there are large groups are exhausting to me because they’re largely impersonal.

I feel like we're more or less on a similar path so this really speaks to me. It's a journey and day after day we're learning what it means to be alive. We are trimming the weeds and becoming better and better. I'm glad you enjoyed my poem
