Cry, my beloved Kyiv

bring back the blue skies
coloured red
by rages of bloody wars

bring back the shiny sun
made pale by weary plumes
of greedy need

so my heart can meet with your's
bickering aside
division away

so our children can play in winter's hands
and sunny haze
oblivious of the masquerade
ghosts steering behind

so that we can display
our beauty
fairly and squarely
in our once safe streets

o tell me it's a dream
we wake to another world
another reality realer than dream
patched up in Kyiv hills

like another life unlived
we dance to unfamiliar song
sad one in Babylonian rivers

like white stallions stumping around
in the southern plains of Ukraine

will stones direct our paths from city to sea
and in whispers decree our creed
in secret
that holds the fishes in harmony
and restore our reality
in fine lines of peace

Last few words:
The conflict in Ukraine is uncalled for. It is a beautiful country undeserving of the war ravaging its beauty.

This was great! I love your use of words. It indeed made me feel the horror of what is going on in Ukraine. I look forward to reading more of your work. Thanks for sharing.

Love and light. Namaste.

I appreciate you Tracey. It is not getting any better there. I fear the war might spill over to other countries. Let love and peace reign.

but I feel that you have
a few lines that could be better. I would change the first line
of the fourth stanza to read:

1] So our children can play in winter's hands

2] ghosts stirring behind

3] our beauty

4] in our once safe streets

5] we dance to unfamiliar song

6] stones direct our path from city to sea

7] and in whispers decree our creed in secret

8] leave out the line: that holds the fishes in harmony

9] and restore our reality in fine lines of peace.

I feel your sympathy for the Ukrainians; as does most of the free world.

"Would that all men be free to be free, and never be slaves to another."

Keep writing, you have much to say. ~ Geezer.

It seems that the days and hours that people
are available for chatroom are staggered and
not a good match for most everyone. How about
if everyone just shows up at the door, whenever
they have a few free minutes?

Splendid Geezer. You've added more colour to the poem. Thank you

I hate to be the one to say this, but: sometimes you must put a dictator down in order to have true peace. sometimes it is an ugly world, because of war, cruelty, death and dictators. I hate war and killing.

*hugs, and good wishes, Cat

p.s.
this is an excellent piece of work!

Dear Candleswitch,
It breaks my heart seeing homes wrecked, families broken and separated and a whole country in disarray. For what? No just cause.

Thank you for your appreciation of my poem and reaching out.

Let peace and love reign!
