2010 December Storms and Blizzard

Freezing cold fell on the South Coast
frigid temperatures turned roads to ice
deep freeze spoiled fruits on trees
New Orleans's youngsters seeking warmth died in fire

Rain storms fell on the West Coast
mud slides covered homes and cars
people dug their way out
bracing up for another winter down pour

Snow storms fell on the East Coast
snowflakes covered homes and cars
no place to park, but in the streets
cleared by snow plows earlier in the eve

Thousands of flights canceled
planes covered with snow and ice
thousands of people stranded
can't get home till after new year

Can't believe international flights
don't refund for snow and ice
so many travelers marooned
it's like nature threw up on life

thanks for reading and commenting. I appreciate your take on nature and mans great imagination. I never thought of it that way thus true. imaginations make for great entertainment. Well we are living in the final days and all will see the going ons in the earth. surely a lot of what mankind is doing to the earth is causing these natural disasters and emergencies. God made earth for us so it won't be going anywhere, but nature is something to reckon with if we continue to ruin the earth with all this new technology. Simply my take on the world events.

We humans think we can tame nature,
but the whole planet is created of fire and water,
ice and snow, and it has such enormous power;
we tend to forget that and in our arrogant manner
think we are in command over all that is,
but we are not, we are as vulnerable
as the ant walking along the path we stride on,
he might be crushed underfoot,
all a matter of chance
and the consequences we have to take,
get up and go on regardless.

It is however sad and terrifying,
such happenings remind us of the above,
we who live on are grateful for the 'fates' for saving our skins,.....so long,
but one day it is our turn,
the inevitable end,
one way or the other, and we have to face it.

No gods or spirits can defend us
against the movement of the elements,
the planets spin on, so long,
we know not where or why it is what is.

For myself if the plane is grounded,
then I find a new adventure begins and
love the sudden need to improvise
alternative ways of tackling it. The excuse
to stay longer in a country where
there are so many interesting things
and people, I welcome the delay.
Less happy with the cold, if I am not
equipped with proper clothing or food/money to buy food.
But the happening is not so dire
I am never so worried that somehow
I shall survive wherever I am, if not, then okay!!

Love to you Barbara, I hope you were not hit by this
discomfort, I am sure many had a difficult time,
specially those with the responsibility for children
or older parents etc! Love Ann.

"The image of yourself which you see in a mirror Is dead,
but the reflection of the moon on water, lives." Kenzan.

thanks Ann glad you find my writing interesting. i must agree we are vulnerable as the ant when nature wields her great power. i am comfortable in my home. it is not so bad here just a little Dec snow. watching the news makes me thinks about what happening to thousands of people having to deal with the discomforts of this unusual winter storms. I feel compel to paint a poetic picture of this years weather problems.
Hope you are comfortable. It seems to me you are stranded at the airport in this horrific weather. wishing you the best.

I was pregnant with my son in the last one... the blizzard of 77-78. We lived in NJ at the time though it hit Northeast Ohio; this time we were spared.

Mother Nature makes no judgment calls, rich or poor, young or old...she arrives in her finery or her moods.

No one else poeticzed the storm, strange.

thanks for reading and sharing your comment. I thinks ours was in 75 not sure as I was a child at the time, but remember waking up to snow up to the window sill. daddy had to leave out of the window to shovel the snow from the door making a path to walk to the store right up the road. I tend to write about everything that crosses my thinking. lol. many take picture as I do also but i thinks poetic pictures is great also. maybe a trend one day.
