Coronation Day

One bright day upon the trail
In blooming field atop a hill
I found a garland draped about
An oaken branch whose life was still

The tree at large remained alive
In meadow stood in solitude
The ample sunshine saw it thrive
And slowly gain more altitude

Beneath it’s shade this basement branch
Deprived of light, did reach nadir
Encroaching insect, vine, or storm
Resolved to strand you lifeless, bare

Swords of Glass

People are like swords of glass:
beautiful, fragile and delicate
but also fierce and sharp.
We must use care with them
and protect them from harm.
The soil of battle and wear of miles
may stain them and etch them opaque.
They may shatter when put to the gamut.
If by chance this does occur
and left with gathered pieces are you.
Be quick to hearth and oven with them
for glass once tempered is forged anew.

Home

Home is knowing you’ve found your place
Not exclusively concrete or wood
A place to yearn for, when too long away
To be there if only you could

It might be the heart of the bright city lights
Or down by the old ocean’s edge
For me, it’s uphill from a lake in the woods
Surrounded by foxes and ledge

A gallery of gardens and flowers galore
Surrounded by meadows of clover
Sweet serenade of the honey bee’s song
Subtlest symphony that’s never quite over

Worth

It’s my universe and I created it.
When it was cold and dark
And it hurt and I cried
That was me

That was my existence and I hated it
Sadness turned to anger
Self loathing precipitated
Viscous despair

A vest of depression and I weighted it
Piled on mistakes and regrets
And dragged them around like a
Security blanket

But then…

My Father... Random Challenge # 16

My father was twisted by spirited drink
alone, he was a good guy
Too much and he wandered toward the brink
accompanied by the lie

Lies, that he had it under control
the devil knew him better
Old spirits had his very soul
and led him on a tether

Just one drink, the promise whispered
and you will feel real great
But there was a second and a third
to make him feel first rate

Princess Charming

I am a sucker for poetry and watching the sun rise..
I have a thing for mystery and..
Misanthropy.. I..
Try to hide the same qualities that
Other people use to define me.. but I..
cant define myself because I can no longer lie.. to myself.. and why?
This life, this game..
Is a hand I was dealt
For a game I never learned the rules to..
My cards are blank, and by the look on your face, i can see that you are too..
But its ok, because I am a sucker for fairy tales.
Happily ever afters..

Come to me

Come to me and take a chance,
Throw caution in the wind.
Test your luck, don’t hesitate,
She who dares can only win.

Jump off a cliff so high and steep,
Come, choose risk to take.
Dive into a sea so deep,
You won’t melt, you’re no snowflake.

Come, forget all fear and doubt,
I’ll show you what it’s all about,
A new world of sensation.

Put on the parachute and leap,
Pray the lord your soul to keep,
Press pause on hesitation.

Changing Tides

With the changing of seasons our fates stark in contrast
Deep in my heart I wish that we would last
A sweet essence of perfection that I shall never sense again
A heart that is the manifestation of love and zen

Late Night Munchies # II... [Random Challege #16]

Hand full of peanuts
ear for the blues
bottle of aged whiskey
a heart full of you

Piano keys tinkling
Strings are humming
I see the blues
Yes, they're coming

Woman always picking
Blame me everything
But she got a sweet voice
Maaaan, she can sing

Fingers tap the ivory
high notes, guitar strum
Picking those notes
against slow beating drums

Hear my strings wail
the song of love wrong
Sax howling midnight
Feelings so strong

Ethereal Requiem

Your words were a warm embrace upon the soul
The one person who made me feel whole
Tears flow like the sea as I write this masterpiece
The sea which is your home, a place that you find release
For you swim through my mind, your smile present every time I blink
No matter how hard the armor against the world, you'd always find the chink
Opening my eyes to what I was blind
An equal to you I shall never find
