Jerry, In Memory
You were mean as home made sin
Whipped my ass time and again
Then you'd tell mama a lie
The Aunt Jenny Hammond's place
Tollie's peg leg made my heart race
Jumped out the back door to land on a jar
Split my foot from heel to toe
Dad rendered you a hell of a blow
And I still have the scar
Taught me to swim in the old creek
Threw me in, laughed till you were weak
Back in the woods by the old sand bar
Doing homework late at night
Taught me how to read and write
And if I failed, get back up and try
Showed me pictures in his racy books
Amazed at how a woman looks
How time just seems to fly
It was hard to see you down
Harder yet putting you in the ground
With my heart about to break
I said goodbye, I said so long
Memories of you still running strong
An emptiness I'll never shake
Jerry Earl Wiginton
Laid to rest January 22nd, 2011

This absolutely needs no critique to begin with anyhow! The poem made me cry. An excellent tribute to a loved family member.

I can see...
him now. Laughing, and telling you that you shouldn't have tears for him. [Although he would secretly be proud,] to know that you have written a great tribute. My condolences, ~ Gee

This must be the place, 'cause there ain't no place like this place anywhere near this place.

My thanks to everyone
I haven't been able to revisit this since I posted it. It has taken me time to come to grips with it. I appreciate you all

This is a lovely piece, and he will love it as you call his name.
It is our way of life now as we reach for the Winter, and the last two years have brought a lot of things home, as we have let go of so many loved ones.
Your Brother "Jerry", my brothers "Gordon" and "Gerald", and our Sister "Edna", and last week we said farewell to our Sister in law, "Iris.".and Brother in laws "Robert" and "Geoff" left last year also
Time moves us through territory that we would rather miss but it is our journey, we are joined by so many things.
I send you the memory of his smile that will bring you a smile from within..
The tears inside will stop, I know, just a question of when..
You take care young Rett, and know that we are here with you,
Yours, Ian..

Thanks Iam
My condolences to you and the family members. Yep, as we reach the winter, we start losing those we love and soon will be reunited with them.
