TATTOOS

TATTOOS

White hot sun scorches stones,
their crystals burning rainbows
sharp as glints of light that pierce the skin,
when patterns merge with matter,
man made magic, singed into the membrane thin,
a shout of pain the brain perceives,
no sound to hear, no star to see,

and when the needles cease their torture,
all is as before, yet not,
the violated surface hurts,
and all for show,
our human vanity to flaunt,
as if we need support for what we are,
when no one notices,
our troubles cast in air, do not take flight,

there must be some
who revel in tattoos here
and there;
and even there!
So flagrant fashions are,
no stop to think that we are perfect as we are,
you taunt the God you think is watching over you
by trying to change his grand design,
divine audacity, but then those who admire
go out and do the same, its part of their attire.

Not that I have any, but just the odd little butterfly, it only lasts a lifetime.
Good write there on vanity though some may need this to just be acceptable, is there no mention of if God likes them???
Take care out there, Yours as always, Ian.T

Hei Ian, what about the man who had such beautiful tattoos on his back that they sold for millions on the market after skinning him and framing his back!! Uff what next? It was in a film, they were after him, the money loving men(and women).

I only have those tattoos I was forced to when being beamed with killer radium rays, as treatment for cancer. The Dr's always asked me, "Do you have any tattoos," because they can burn one under certain lights, or treatment. I only answered, " only those which you already gave me! So now the little dots of grey are still visible, and I suppose will be until they age with me and fade away.

Well tattoos, cant say I am in favour of them, though the odd little butterfly has to be lovely lol (My Son calls me Papillon)
Now if the man could have sold his tattoos without having to die, then fair enough, but I guess he didn't benefit from it at all...
I hope you are well and that the memories of those grey marks have faded, look to the hills and see the beauty there, await the next sunrise and run to ist birth, Go well young lady, Yours Ian

This poem put me in mind of a book/movie titled, "The Illistrated Man" by Ray Bradbury. The man was covered from head to toe with tattoos (and I think they were alive and moved!) It was a long time ago. I've never been able to understand why someone would want to cover a large portion of their body with pictures. I guess it takes a special mind-set to do so. I think of this: A body changes and wrinkles over time and so would the pretty picture. I don't think I'd like that for me.

always, Cat

My wrinkled tattoos sounds a stunning title for a new poem,
a humorous one perhaps, or a poignant one.
Wrinkles show a story, with tattoos all over them they
wouldn't be able to tell it would they?

Likewise Ann.
