the flag flutters
red white and blue
those earthly colours that our god fearing nation grew

from opressions of a Kingly tax
we rushed to aid those weak
under attack

The eagle is our totem sign
feirce strong who gives his time
in aiding with his warrior might
opressed and blinded a true sight

A leading nation helping still
our multied people with good will
our leader with a back bones strong
our bill of rights that will last long

from soldiers battling tyranny
to lougheed martins dropping
bombs

through strenght and numbers
follow order peace and calm

rightly so...but we trade we share a lot
Our national symbol is the beaver
a little aquatic being industrious and
hardy with a flat tail that builds dams
and gnaws down trees

no winged predator with "eagle" eyes
and monster talons and savage beak
..I saw only one in real life going north
on a train.. a huge bird regal and powerful

anyway I always liked the american nationality
and americans in general too and travelled across
america from the west once

and now that America is going in to help clean up
the troubles in Syria too Uncle Sam lends a helping
hand to those in need

we Canadians are doing what we can in Afghanistan
I shall compose a nationality poem for Canada one
day too in the future!

WE have beaver and I saw signs of them still in the vicinity of the shops,
down by the river Aker that runs from the, by now, well known Maridals lake,
through the centre of Oslo and out beside the white Carrara marble Opera House.

Those busy beavers, with their dams and tunnelled areas
just behind industrial buildings, oh I hope they stay.

At the far end of the lake there is a big beaver home,
twigs and logs piled high in the shade of the copse
beside the river feeding the lake from the north.

All the aspen trees are slowly disappearing
due to their industry!!! Those lovely trees,
but we love the beavers too.

Just out there, look there are layers of grey blue,
the hills have made a picture to the west of the lake,
the trees in the foreground darker, I think all peoples
brought up to love nature, are those who also can help
most. Like you, your wild background gives a wholeness
to all life.

I liked this, the flow was easy and intentional. I couldn't help but notice the native american reference and wondered if it is due to it being Native American Week?
I too am from the North Country 17 miles south of the Canadian border. It seems our worlds are not so different.

Thank you
Tommi
