Already Old

Over coffee that morning
we both smiled. Remembering
when we first met
we were both already old.

But we were free
from the awkwardness
of first encounters with love.

At the time, we didn't know
we would share in the sun
the rest of our shadows together.

Sometimes I get excited and go on and on about a poem that I really love. I wanted to offer how "shadows" feels to me here. Not only the shadows of the golden years, but it also feels like it's reflecting on their individual experiences being peacefully left in the past. Anyhoo...
Thank you!

This has a gentle and lovely feel about it. An enjoyable and thought provoking poem that I read more than a few times. I applied it to myself as a younger person and read it again as an older one. Your words made me look to my past and my present. Well done, Ruby :)

Give and grow - let's raise our verses together. I'm happy to comment on your work and appreciate a comment on mine.
