Charismatic Poet

Charismatic Poet

Much water has flowed
Down the Mississippi
Since, The Truant,
My maiden poem
The Principal placed in the basket
The final casket
She beckoned me to know
In poetry I shall never grow
Three decades later
A poet since rested
In poetry books last pages
Evaluated
Without any admiration
A long way you’ve to travel
That‘s my firm conviction.
Half a decade later
I stumbled
Then walked through
The wilderness of time
With a scroll in my hand
Across mirages and oases
Committed five thousand prose’s
Without rhythm or rhyme
As I walked in here
To confirm
A born poet
My mind, ought to be infirm.
Finally, I embalmed myself.
A real poet I’ll never be
A prosaic ornament of poetry
Leave it far behind,
Now go off and explore
Finally be off poetic galore.

What is to be is what we thought when young
what we become is not for our eyes
It is for the sound and sight
of a muse we do not recognize?

I rather like the way that rhyme intrudes on the free form: basket/casket, know/grow, be/poetry, confirm/infirm (separated by a line), explore/galore. I'm less crazy about the inversions used to achieve a couple of them: 'In poetry I shall never grow', 'A real poet I'll never be'. I know I'll look silly if you point out to me that they're deliberate devices to emphasise the budding poet's lack of finesse! :-D

But sorry u rn't aware

I'm not sure if I rightly understand your response. No one can be totally aware of the background of a poem, of course, and works of art are always open to interpretation by a viewer or reader. If you're responding to my comment about the use of inversions, that's simply a point of style, a device which has been over-used in formal poetry, unless, as I speculated, the examples in this poem were for a specific, deliberate effect; however, if the latter is true and the reason is buried somewhere in the poet's 'background', it is hardly likely to be obvious. Presenting something in which the meaning or significance is partly arcane is legitimate in poetry, but we must remember that we do write also to communicate.

Perhaps you ought to know

They call me a prosaic poet

As I know nothing of poetry
Despite having composed
4500 plus in bulk,
In these past two years plus.

I’m an off the cuff poet,
NON CONFORMIST at best,
Knowing no nuances
And
Nor finesse of what poetry is,
Except the configuration,
Of an emotional distraught mind,
At that point of unearthly time,
Delving into the minds benign

Poetry lives in any form
and though rhyme may be my norm
I reckon everybody knows
loved is the king of prose
if sometimes a rhyme slips in
don't consider it a sin
remember where the best poems start
is within the writer's heart

loved is the king of prose
if sometimes a rhyme slips in................
YEAH NO SINNER ME............

At least it seems that your first poem had name. And screw that teacher!
(No disrespect to any teachers here, if there may be, lurking around some dark corners, waiting to pounce.) But until such time as untimely pouncing may occur, no dream ever dies, only lies down to rest for a while. And if what I take from this poem is that a poet once gave up because the world refused to use the moniker, then I'd like to say that I once wrote, that you are whatever you dream in your heart for yourself to be. It doesn't matter whether it may take you a day, or ten years to reach it in the eyes of the world, perhaps you never will. But what you see yourself as, no one can ever take that away from you, or convince you otherwise. There is no contrary fact to a decided heart.

Now that I'm done ranting, and cursing, and doing whatever I was doing...
I'm not very used to this type of poem, which only says that I've not read nearly enough poetry, but it does draw your to read further.
"Without any admiration
A long way you’ve to travel
That‘s my firm conviction."
I like this bit especially, maybe only because of my own experiences, but it doesn't matter. It's beautifully put together, and in true free-from style, the style of no style, it hops and skips just as it pleases.

I'll read more soon, but I don't really know how to comment on free-form writing. How can you say a certain piece doesn't seem to fit, when it's not supposed to? Quite a quandary, really.

Yours though, with a pleased smile upon reading

A Narcissist Blooms

A narcissus blooms,
Upon graves and dies,
Ere it’s born,
Tis significance of death,
An eternal sleep in peace

Another such a poet
Is born falling in love
With ones own reflection,
In a flowing stream
And
Plunges to immortality,
Ere betwixt birth and death,
A short expanse of time
A story of eternity,
A fresh poet suddenly emerges
Hopefully,
One, I had been
