The red chair

Red is the color of the chair that execute.
On the chair sits a prisoner,
while I stand and look him into the eyes.

He screams but no louder than I step onto the floor.
Could his scream ?

Forgive the murder.

of the meaning of the lines:
He screams but no louder than I step onto the floor.
Do you mean: "He screams, but no louder than my steps on the floor"?

I can see the last line meaning that "he screams, and I interpret it to mean that he forgives me."
