Famine Of The Soul (eddy styx)

Famine of the Soul

I am hunger
my nature is constant
I have many faces
and many facets
like a river
which branches
I flow from my source
to infect oceans
at my insatiable mouth
I am that gnawing
cavernous ache in the belly
that cries out for sustenance
I am hunger
an emptiness devoid
of all replenishing fuel
and I have leveled armies
no one is safe
from my touch
I can inflict
the youngest babe
helpless in its cradle
to the oldest man
lamenting for his youth
and lost opportunities
I have no words
but can be heard
as the soldier
crying out for
the loss of his life
in a foreign land
I am relentless
in my drive to enslave
I inflict the rich
and poor alike
with a keening need
I am hunger
I will not be denied

to a poem my brother wrote over forty years ago called I Am Legion.
Main difference, he wrote in rhythm and rhyme.

it sounds like your brother and I would have had much in common! free verse is my most comfortable medium.

I was thinking of the tune of imagine by John Lennon with this piece.
The concept of many faces don't we all really try to hide behind a mask cause were to afraid to reveal our true selves/
Marked on a blotted page yet clearly intact.
The true picture of illustration makes a great impact with this piece.
I thought it was great.

Shouldn't that be Eleanor Rigby
Waits at the window, wearing the face
That she keeps in a jar by the door

oceans U wrote
I put in a line on your word upon reading..
"my saline mouth"

and I like salient..that word too..
but the salt in the wounds...
the bleak of salted fiends like the romans
so nothing grew...for a time...

poetry like spells with the roll of the language
and meaning
this I feel of your works

masks...yes....Greeks used them in the
stripped down streamlined of their plays
of the day which were very popular
a socialistic comment
the one channel of its day
so all would be on the same
thought wave
unlike our fracture and facet
of today

Emoji's for expression

thoughtful and brilliant

Thank U!
