Limerick

“Limerick”

A short sometimes bawdy, humorous poem of consisting of five anapaestic lines. Lines 1, 2, and 5 of a Limerick have seven to ten syllables and rhyme with one another.
Lines 3 and 4 have five to seven syllables and also rhyme with each other.
Need to find out more about Limericks ?
Limericks were used in Nursery Rhymes and other poems for children.

Terza rima

A type of poetry consisting of 10 or 11 syllable lines arranged in three-line “tercets”.
The poet Dante is credited with inventing terza rima and it has been used by many English poets including Chaucer, Milton, Shelley, and Auden.

"What is a Terza Rima Poem?"

A terza rima is an Italian form of poetry first used by Dante Alighieri.

2016 The Year of the BOOK

It may be this year that here at Neopoet we will compile a book for the first time.
Last year saw a decline in the number of poets commenting on others works, as this helps to edit the poetry on stream, therefore making poems easier to be selected for a book, I hope that we can when asked start to become more active in Neopoets activities.
1.Comments:- are needed to judge the quality of the poetry we have here, this applies to all poets.
2. Chat Room:- this part of Neopoet needs better attendance.

To All At Neopoet

I cannot stay long as this is the shortest day here in the Northern hemisphere.
So my friends, I am here in the United Kingdom, thought I would pop in and wish you all a wonderful Season, isn't it great that at this time of the year, that near all the Earth comes together in some form or another to wish each other well.
This season should last all year, Our Sothern Hemisphere friends, mostly in Australia or where ever you are have a lovely few days off.

All Poets

I am as cross as ten sakes, one poem for Winter contest and one returned due to no comments, Now a week has passed and I have commented on several poets over that time, and MINE well only Stan commented on one of them.
Nothing from any of the poets I have supported through the years.
I am tired of this system and can spend my time on my own work, I have hundreds of short stories to write from my tapes and have up until now let that slide.
I am going to stop commenting on anyone that doesn't acknowledge that I exist on Neopoet.

Wesley's workshop Lesson One

Rhythm vs. Meter.

What is rhythm?

Rhythm is the flow of the poem. How it reads, whether smooth and moving from one word to the next with ease or choppy, clumsy and ugly.
Rhythm is what you get when you write a poem… good or bad.

Meter DESCRIBES what the rhythm is. With an understanding of meter we can guarantee our poem moves smoothly and identify difficulties in the work. Meaning, what works and what doesn’t and (most importantly):

Why!

Let’s begin at the beginning.

Feelings in writing

I was as usual this morning reading the words of our poets.
Steve (Esker) Joe (Geremia) and of course Rula, words of feelings pain and a substance that I can only play with.
These poets are precious to our site they bring true feelings, if only we could bottle this and give it away.
There is a need for us to understand what is written, just reading is not good enough, how to feel.
It would be great if one of these three would do a workshop on feelings then maybe we would be able to write more from their teaching with truthfulness.

How to save time on Neopoet

During the last few weeks I have streamed 17 pieces.
On all of those 17 I have received about 32 comments as to how the work is and replied 32 times.
This is an average of 2 comments for each of my pieces as I have been writing here for many years and each day have given support to many poets I find that there is need for a change.
I spend nearly 3 hours a day on Neopoet, but am now stopping.
3285 Hours approx. later, I have given much more than I should have, if you thin I am wrong about stopping let me know.
