Nobody Likes Cold Feet

nobody likes a lover
with cold feet

i mean frozen toes
beneath the covers

or frigid digits
escaped from snow boots

pressed against
your naked thigh

but one body lives
to warm another

fetch a pair of fuzzy socks
or share a fire place

embracing the challenge
of turning cold into comfortable
estranged into ecstatic

we might be afraid
to face the flames

the prick of feeling again
like a hundred pins

or of making our lover
feel our icy skin

Apart

Although we are far apart,
you in one city, I another,
look to the heavens my love.

The moon begins to wax bright
and takes her rightful place
as sovereign of the night.

And like the rising tide
which longs for her breast
let our spiritual selves move
from their material nests.

and as we look in the sum
of singular light, may our souls
enter, and breathe as one.

Allan Watts in a nutshell

Waking up slowly
back to back with my cat
I lie in bed motionless
on my side.
Blood runs thoroughly
in my slender arms
but one hand is cold
and the other is hot.

I open my eyes
to eclectic lights,
gold of the lamp and
gentle lilac of the sunrise,
to the newborn morning
only learning to fight
but ready to be replaced,
like teenage soldier.

Spring Meadow

I was one to stare at the restless waves,
Hour after hour on the lonely beach
They filled my despair with the promise
Of forgetfulness and permanence.

I listened with soothing anticipation
For the soft crashing on the shore.
An uncluttered world split three ways-
A fine line between the sky and ocean grey

And the jagged graph the retreating waves
Leave in amber on the moist sands.
I sat detached among empty shells
Content that the sea spray filled the air

Be Brave

think of a boy
learning to swim

from his perspective
the lake is so much bigger
than his little body

it looks to swallow him whole
and he is heavy as a rock

but somehow
with a little help
he learns to beat
his arms and legs
for long enough
and at the right angles
to keep himself afloat

even in the most
overwhelming circumstances
remember that
like the boy
we are designed for success

From the ICU

Pillows pack the pain
Dizziness controls the brain
Blue curtains domain.

BETRAYAL OF A DIARIST

Somebody's diary,
discovered in jumble sale,
tells brief anguish tale,
girl search for grail,
friendship acceptance love,
intelligent tenderness,
absence of betrayal.

Love of new friend,
lesbian from beginning to end,
film makers decide expunge,
marketers say is grunge,
too commercial to defend,
advertisers will unfriend,
relationship confounding unread women men,
problematic for school regimen.

Rare Beauty

You're feast for the eyes of boys men,
Your charming lights have exceeded the rubicon.
The racing eyes have forgotten their pedestrian crossing.
Now your beauty standard receives a thunderous daily ovation.
Your worth is a great what!
Your pigment have gone viral.
You're greater than the pretty -ugliest who 're the queens.

Have your say (REPLACE I 4 YOU wherever)

Would I be happier
if I sold all my wealth
and
placed all my dollars on a trailer
as I pulled it along the
Park Avenue New York

Or

would I be a happier guy
to walk in an open collar shirt
flashing my soft skin
in the summer’s beginning heat
across WHITE HOUSE.
Washington DC

None would know me

That’s why the NOBEL was introduced
by the GRANITE MAN
who faked his death
and
wanted to hear
what he would be thought of
and
hoped to be really missed
