A VERSION OF ME

A VERSION OF ME

I am who I am, but I would say that
Others who think they know me, do not
I’m an enigma, or so some might believe
Not merely normal, but certainly better
Following my own rules to the letter
I take the initiative, and am a go-getter
Yet with no tricks hidden up my sleeve
I’m grateful for all the things I have got
And I could list some, straight off the bat

Self-belief should always be applauded
Confidence in one’s own body and mind
There will be times when humble works
As long as it doesn’t end in submission
A gentle smile can hide nuclear fission
An advantage knowing your own position
Especially when trouble or danger lurks
But I am correct, I’m sure you’ll find
I keep a full log where it’s all recorded

A sense of duty, at least to kith and kin
Perhaps to the world and mankind too
But that may be just one step too far
A time and place for a national hero
Not a soft creative like Klimt or Miro
But cool under pressure, even subzero
I’m even offered free drinks at the bar
I admit that I have a self-centred view
But all this humility is now wearing thin

An honest look at yourself put into poetry. Good flow and use of language. Well done.

rhyme scheme. I think that might be the first I've read like that. Seems you're satisfied with it, too.
