I’m not quite sure
Just how to go about
Changing the world
But I know I have to try

I’ve been so blessed
To have all of these
Tiny humans
In my life

My wish for them
Is that they will see
A better way
We find

And grow up where
They are free and brave
And strong
And loud
And wild

I hope they will know
They can say no
They can say stop
They can say that’s enough
They can leave
They can hang up the phone
They can say that’s not okay
You cannot do that
I hope they will know
They have a choice

I hope they will believe
They were wonderfully made
Just the very way they are
That they are inherently so worthy
Just because they exist
And that they get to take up space
And use their voice

I hope they will see
They are smart
They are capable
They are powerful
And they can do great things

And that if they ever go looking
For someone to lean on
Someone will be there
Someone will show up
Someone will care
Someone will see

I hope they will feel
Celebrated
Surrounded
Important
Special
And like they matter
Because, my God, they do to me

So, how do I move us
Towards a place
That will never
Take from them
Those things I hope they keep

Where do I march
Who do I call
When do I vote
What do I sign

I’m just one person
I’m not quite sure
If I can change this whole big world
But I know I have to try
