6 Months

6 Months
Written by Kelly Ann Wilson

For 6 months
I was paralyzed
I was frozen
Numb

I don’t even know what I did
How I passed the time

I couldn’t move
I couldn’t speak
I couldn’t look up
I disappeared

And I know, I know that life is fragile
And delicate
And goes by so fast
And even knowing that so deeply
Wasn’t enough

It was just so unimaginable
That there was no way to reconcile it
That couldn’t really be what happened
But it was

It cost me
182 days
4,380 hours
262,800 minutes
And time didn’t stop for me
It didn’t wait
It was just gone

But I can’t wish I had stood back up
Found a way to fight back
To push back

There are some things
You can only endure

Some times
You can only survive

I have not been in a coma, [which is what I think you describe here], I do have a sense of what you feel. I have parts of my life that I do not remember; only vaguely, and I wonder if it was really the way I remember it.

Hey, this is a good poem, your title is good, but plain. Try "The Six-Months Eclipse." [half joking].
I got the theme of this right away and felt it keenly. it caught my interest from the first few lines,
and I found myself wondering what it must have been like, just floating nowhere.
To come back from that and find that everything had gone on around you, and left you behind...
I found your language to be plain, simple words to describe the emotion without lending itself to fake drama.
This was real, thank you for sharing.

This must be the place, 'cause there ain't no place like this place anywhere near this place.

Hello, Kelly,
I simply cannot imagine this experience, but you have described the unimaginable. The last two couplets are especially straight forward and raw. Thank you very much.
