Anniversary.

The years roll by,
So many now
Since that cold March day when we took our vows.
Me 24 she just 18
As lovely a girl as I could have wished to have seen.

So the years rolled by as we loved, laughed and fought,
Took on life and its battles as three children were brought
Into a world we prayed would be safe
A world on which children no troubles would chafe.

Now the children have grown
Have young of their own
Flown far away
But still close to home.
And we, after 55 years go on
In a world where laughter and love never wan.

Loving you Linda I will never regret
Wedding you Linda I will never forget.

like a small thing to some of us; to write our spouse a love poem for our anniversary, but I have done it for most all of ours, and my wife keeps them all; she has a notebook or something to keep them all in. Fifty-five years! Congratulations and I hope many more. Nice poem to remind her that you love her more than anything. One thing, I would rework the last two lines a bit. How about:
" I love you Linda, don't ever forget
Wedding you Linda, I won't ever regret"
~ Geezer.

Thanks Geezer it's the first time I've written for her though we keep all the various cards we have given each other over the years. My evil sense of humour wanted to put an entirely finishing closing line along the lines of time I had some parole, but I thought better of it.

It never does well, for a man to speak flippantly of or about serious things like anniversaries and birthdays; probably why you have stayed married so long. ~ Geezer.
