IN MY VAULT

Soft waves wash across our feet
and wipe our footprints from the sand.
Board walk provides a deep backbeat
from a sixties tribute band.

We've walked along this beach before
and heard the plaintive sea birds cry
as they patrolled this stretch of shore
wheeling within a clear blue sky.

But now my gait is not as fast.
My love slows down because of me
unlike the times far in the past
when we splashed this east coast sea.

Boy oh boy! it sure is hot
at least as hot as devil's snot
ninety seven in the shade
who knows how hot in sunny glade

So hot when suntan oil's applied
a person could be "southern fried"
a head without a hat soon learns
all that's known about sunburns

To cool off I built a fire
and it Worked I ain't a liar
I caught a whiff of sulfur here
as if hell was much too near

HALLOWEEN DARE (a poem)

In the near silence of this night
as witching hour soon approaches
I try to overcome my fright,
despite my best it still encroaches.

I'm in this house based on a dare
made in the cheerful light of day
but now I feel dark spirits' stare
all urging me to run away.

Flee this small deserted house!
Flee right now while you still can!
Flee! my mood and mind espouse.
But fleeing isn't in the plan.

A question

What makes a great poem?

POETRY AND TENNIS

Hi Ya'll
I was reading one of Norton's Anthologies on poetry and ran across a quote by Robert Frost..:
"Writing free verse poetry is like playing tennis without a net". And this is from a poet who used free verse lol. Thought you would all get a laugh out of this...................stan

HACKED (a short story)

Anson Grey was a gentle man. He knew this because he had worked at becoming one for years. Indeed, it had taken nearly fifteen years in a veteran's psyche ward to regain this gentle disposition he'd had before he joined an elete covert ops team. A team of men who specialized in very ungentle ways of neutralizing enemies.

SOW THE WIND

There have been a few inquiries concerning short stories. Short stories for now can be posted on blogs. Just to prove it, here's one lol.

SOW THE WIND

John Thornton was a high school biology teacher. He had tried using his PHD in virology to teach at the college level at the University of Maryland. But the campus politics and endless paper work had driven him to teach high school instead. Less paper work resulted in more time for his beloved family.

DIAMOND HEAD

That old elf fell and bumped his head
(good thing it weren't his ass instead)
for that is where his brains reside
a fact he tries his best to hide

Says he fell while in the shower
trying his B.O. to overpower
his noggin probably cracked the tile
( it's harder by a country mile)

Now ere he tells me go to hell
I'll take some time to wish him well
knowing this is sent in jest
from an old bald scribbling pest

*another not ready for prime time poem
