My college Girlfreind

I remember you; running home, for our appointed lunch hours

Just one block away, from the crazy Dean's Castle

Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches halved, steaming hot, micro waved chicken
noodle soup or sometime grilled cheese quartered for dipping in our tomato and those
silly little oyster crackers you made me buy, I had to drive five miles to get those things in rush hour traffic

A full sized giant dill pickle, halved long ways of course; though I knew I would
never get my half, but, I was always okay with that

You were studying to be a (Marcus Well Be) a T.V. Doctor I would tease you
                                                  and
I was just graduating from the "School of Hard Knocks"

We made some time and lots of love, and then you went away I just wasn't okay with that
But, my college girlfriend  I knew you were going to go

Is love just a state of mind, what makes it so great?

I know it is more than just the restless sweaty hormones; that we all have

You learned from the straight and narrow college books and those professors

Me, I learned from the mean streets of our Chicago town, while driving that
damned old taxi

But, it always makes me so glad; to remember the day you turn those learned people

                                                                    Out

                                                                    and

                                                           Choose me

                                                             Over them

                                                                    or

Could it be, you just needed me and that old taxi, to get you around

Either way my dear, I will love you, to the very end, thank you

About This Poem

About the Author

Region, Country: U.S. A. Indiana, Valparaiso, USA

Favorite Poets: Robert Frost, Walt Whitman, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, Carl Sandburg these I have read some And so Many More. I have no Favorite or any that I dislike. Whom I consider to be poets; of course there are many Dark and hateful souls, who would cry out and to I will lend an ear, but some. They just leave a awful taste in my heart that I can not bear to read twice. Let alone as many times I would do normally; as I must.

"Could it be, you just needed me and/ or my Taxi?"

You know I just almost let the title stray from this piece but I am so glad I did not. I love the sentiment and honest flashbacks. It is strange sometimes when you remember those great loves and you really don't know why or how that love blossomed and grew. Who knows maybe it was your taxi...but do you really care? Great Writing poet!!! "For every shadow, no matter it's depth, is threatened by the morning's light..." <3 Emarie

By reading this piece I

By reading this piece I joined you on your journey down memory lane, and I enjoyed the ride of reminiscence. It made me think of an old boyfriend I had while I was going to school for my degree. At the time I knew that wouldn't last either. ("But I knew you were going to go") This line struck me in particular. Next time I have a grilled cheese with tomato soup, I will try quartering it and dipping! Always, Cat

Thanks Cat I've been Trying

To go through and clean some of these up some as I want to try and put a second Chap book together now that I have seem to have things going on the frist one And By the way I live over a mile in a half from the Library now so it is harder then before I wish I would have gone to colleage but unfortunaly was never truly intrested in it why I was growing up but very intrested now I think higher learn should be free as do I think medical needs but don't get me wrong only those who work for it and at it should get it The learning not the medical so many deserving in our country and yet they don't recieve is no wonder this country is found lacking in so many areas but, hey I still beleive it is the greatest one on earth now if I go back to colleage I would be distracted by the Girls Gone Wild Parties wouldn't learn a damned thing Donnie/Sinbad
