About workshops

Workshops on Neopoet are groups that meet for a certain period of time to focus on a certain aspect of poetry. Each workshop participant is asked to critique all the other poems submitted into a workshop. A workshop leader helps coordinate -- they set the agenda, give participants feedback on whether their submissions and critique are at they level expected of them, and after the workshop is over, give feedback to participants.

To join a workshop, first find one that is of interest to you. Once you have found the right workshop (and verified that it is open -- you can find this out in the description below), you can apply to join the workshop.

Join the Neopoet online poetry workshop and community to improve as a writer, meet fellow poets, and showcase your work. Sign up, submit your poetry, and get started.

Each droplet of rain
a mercenary of life
god sends from the skies

we hear them knock on roof tops
waking us to join rain dance

how do you join, are there instructions about the forms or must research them yourself?

tyro the form you have to use here is Tanka of 5 lines conforming to sequence of syllabi 5/7/5/7/7 to the theme of raindrops/rain. Barbara would then consolidate such tankas posted to form a Renga

I couldn’t have said it so precise being as detail as I can get sometimes. Lol

quench the thirst of the earth [six syllabi],

celebration of life [six syllabi]

I am sure you can fix both
.......................................................

raj (sublime_ocean)

quench the thirst of the earth [six syllabi], could be turned to
quench the thirst of mother earth [seven syllabi],

celebration of life {six syllabi] could be turned to
true celebration of life [seven syllabi]

this poetry form is new to me. Glad it was introduced, I know that it consist of two stanzas and multiple writers. What if you don't have anyone to collab with?

You are here collabing now. That’s what this workshop is all about. Just share your haiku or senyru here with two couplet added and you have a tanka.

Butterfly exits cocoon
As clear drops fall on my head.

Welcome tyro to the Renga with your vivid tanka...

"as clear drops fall on my head" create a picture that you are enjoying the rain without an umbrella

kids get excited
to sail paper boats on streams
to voyage their dreams

some are of the warrior

raj (sublime_ocean)

I really like this little nugget. It’s not about rain or raindrops but kids sailing paper boats on streams works for me

I think the second line in the 3 line haiku needs to more syllables. I count five. I maybe off tho being American dialect. lol.

why is rain biased
about when and where to fall
rather than bless all

flooding some with her riches
not reaching those famine lands

raj (sublime_ocean)

sweeping all rubbish
that is littered everywhere
cleansing air as well

if ever she is enraged
wrecks a havoc in her path

You can write a whole Tanka. Or as you did a couplet to raj haiku creating a Tanka. Collaboration at its best. I’ve allowed changes as they make the workshop more creative and inspiring. Not rigid or strict to form. Except for 5/7/5/7/7 is the only for Japanese. I am expanding to other forms as raj is saying but haven’t yet. It’s time now to do so. ready to create it with other poetry forms that is still collaborative in native. .
