The will

Do you know how it is to be
eternally haunted?
Your pain turns to fear,
your dreams turn to nightmares.

Haunted by your past
and driven by emotions
that couldn't leave your body
in a safe, steady motion.

So afraid of darkness
but only her gives you peace.
When the night finally comes
you can freely release.

So scared to be lonely
you push people away
even when they are longing,
when they want you to stay.

So if you're looking for signs -
- the messenger has arrived.
In this poem I'll tell you
your resistance was mine.

You can take a deep breath
and repeat after me:
there are things I called mine,
now I'm setting them free.

There's no point in settling
for what no longer serves you.
There's reason in pain,
there's meaning in failure.

If you struggle - let's grasp it.
If you're hurting - let's hurt.
There's no reason to hold on,
what has passed can't return.

Knowing something is a start,
Understanding's for context.
Letting go is the hardest,
but it's needed to progress.

So don't fear connection,
It's okay to be chosen.
And if your heart breaks -
- make sure it breaks open.

Thank you for sharing these heartfelt words.

Throughout your poem you reiterate how past hurt affects one's ability to want to connect with others. And it emphasizes how important it is to allow ourselves an opportunity to feel how we feel; as is echoed in the lines, "...and driven by emotions that couldn't leave your body in a safe, steady motion." (Which are the lines that drew me in).

I love how this poem ends: "So don't fear connection, It's okay to be chosen. And if your heart breaks - - make sure it breaks open." It drives the point home with a sense of closure, and does so memorably.

I think the punctuation did well to provide necessary pause and flow, and, though your rhymes weren't strict, your overall structure kept it's integrity. I am as much a fan of prose as rhyme, so I am pleased with how well you mixed the two; you didn't stick so harshly to making the words sound the same that you sacrificed the delivery of the concept, and you didn't abandon rhyme entirely, and the result is well done.

Great job with this piece, and thank you for sharing

after reading your comment I…

after reading your comment I sat and cried for like, solid 10 minutes. I have never thought that something I do can have such a positive influence on others. Thank you so, so much for every word you said, it means the world to me

...and also that damn annoying therapist was right, I'm worth more than I ever thought I would be. that f*cker

back to your coment, it gives me hope that whatever comes out of me in the form of poetry, prose or whatever I'll write, might help others and that's all I am about. Thank you so much, once again <3

I'm happy...

I'm happy that my comment resonated so deeply. I think when a poet writes for themselves—whether to express their own hearts, or to reflect something they need to hear, it speaks to others as well. As unique as humans maybe in experiences, we are not so different from eachother. Often pain, grief, despair, joy, and love can be felt the same, despite that gap. And when we write only for an audience, or public opinion, without consideration for what we need, everyone misses out.

Thank you for being bold enough to share.

I absolutely agree. After my…

I absolutely agree. After my last experiences with humans I noticed we're all the same, just in many different ways and that's so unique... That's why I'm glad people like you speak up, that people like us create, that people like those who'll be touched by it on a personal level will be able to set those emotions free - instead of keeping it all in. Thank you for existing <3
