Thank You, Teacher

We teachers all on knowledge dine
And we unlock our students' minds.
So they can reach the path divine
We really are of a special kind.

We are mentors that prompt their yearning
Reading is a skill that we must impart.
So they can always read for learning.
A thirst for knowledge we should jumpstart.

We are like shepherds guiding sheep
Showing them how to choose the right path.
Without our nurture, they would sadly creep
Through all the world unending wrath.

Yes, we teachers, turn the pages
Of a great many wonderful books.
Our training reaches down through the ages
We teach our pupils for wisdom to look.

Thank you, dear teacher,
For all, you have done.
In a world of so many
You are a special one.

Last few words:
I was a first-grade teacher for 23 years and loved it. I had to retire early ar 50 due to disability. I have been retired 22 years and I still miss the little ones. I wrote this open in appreciation of all teachers and to show that without them the world would be a sad place.

especially appreciative of this one. I had trouble learning to read and had a special teacher that helped me in the fifth-grade.
Thank you for giving these special people a boost. One little criticism, the last lines seem too short as compared to the rest of the poem. Maybe you could lengthen them a bit?

Thank you [my] dear teacher
For all [that] you have done
In a world of so [very] many
You are a [most] special one.

A very nice poem that shows how much we need these special people. ~ Geezer.

Hello!
An endearing tribute! And after 23 years, it should be a tribute to you, too. 'We teach our pupils for wisdom to look.' My favorite line.
Thank you!

Thank you for reading and commenting on my poem. It helps me keep writing although I am disabled and in constant pain. Julia
