BENEATH GREEN TWIG (challenge #10)

I've come close to heaven and been through hell
in a life that's spanned too many years
sometimes lived badly other times well
laughed like a fool or drowned in tears.

My time's seen failures and success.
I've earned awards and condemnations
and deserved them both I guess.
I admit this with no reservations.

All these thoughts occur to me
while sitting on this wild hill side
beneath a soaring poplar tree
as I watch a pair of goshawks glide.

I use hunting deer as an excuse
for spending all this time alone.
(does this make me a recluse?)
of what am I trying to atone?

There goes a small buck sneaking by
gangly as any teenage boy.
I could easily shoot but I don't try.
Merely spotting him brings me joy.

And now another year near made
so I arise prepared to go
as frost forms on hill and glade.
I look around carefully and slow
then proceed to where all love is made:
To home beneath a mistletoe.

this around from the sitting and thinking about your past, to the [almost hunt] and then homeward to the hearth and love under the mistletoe! As always, nice stuff!
~ Geez.

There are times when I start a poem and it takes over, leading me to who knows where lol. Thanks for the visit

just what you mean. Sometimes, one will start out in one direction and just take off on its' own and take a completely different path! Kind of like a spirited child, that runs away from you when they are just learning that they can avoid you picking them up to do whatever you wish with them, laughing all the way! ~ Geez.

It's crystal clear you had experienced good life and bad times before now. The first line unveils the reality of the poem. One thing is, life is full of ups and down. It might be rosy today tomorrow is turns sour.
Life can not deliver to humanity all he desires because one thing is constant which is 'change'. But tough time never last but tough people do.

"Poetic license
the poets
the free will to
embroider a good tale
and deviate from the established rules of language"~Jackweb

I expect every life has its bad times. But without them we would not really appreciate the good ones
