The Mystery of The Mona Lisa and the Ripping of Space and Time

She smiles
because she knows

She could plant seeds
on the moon
if she wanted to

Travel space in a breath
fold distance in a blink
pleat dimensions
with a heartbeat
in a wingbeat
the envy of angels
knows

she knows
words are meaningless
and only a smile
can cradle the silence
express the bliss

She knows
and so
She smiles

What a lovely poem

You know I have a lovely picture of the Mona Lisa my brother gave to me and it is beautiful. I will always remember how they sang this to me when I was a baby, my uncles, my dad, and my grandfather. ps I share her smile too and this poem for sure Great one!! Mona aka magics02

Crit

Lackluster title for a smart and stylish poem. Kind of like a plastic frame on a Da Vinci. Love the opening stanzas. She should have an ornate title to introduce her.

Thanks for the crit :) I

Thanks for the crit :) I totally get what you're saying about the title, it's partly named after the title of the picture that inspired it, so I should like to keep the bracketed part, to acknowledge that, but am open to ideas on a more fitting title :) will give it some thought and any suggestions gratefully recieved :) Happy you liked the poem though. Thanks and much love Beki xxx

Beki,

this is as close to perfect as it gets. Very evocative writing in your unique voice. "only a smile/can cradle the silence" I loved these lines in particular. Hope you are having a wonderful Valentine's day, dear fairy ;) Yours, ~Nina

my response was almost the opposite of Nicole's

from the title I expected something different from the poem. Maybe not so opposite. The poem itself is possibly the best of yours I have read. I adore that you can take in metaphysics, physics and spirituality without being the least pretentious. This poem belongs to you, not the painting... well actually it belongs to us, your readers now, due to your generousity, thankyou, Jess, Reprehensibly irrepressible

You're ever so welcome :)

Thank You Jess, I'm humbled by your comment but Nicole was right about the title, I think you found the poem in the stream after editing, it was previously entitled, 'She Smiles (the mystery of the Mona Lisa)' which I'm sure you'll agree was a bit lame :)) I agree it is one of my better poems, it was one of those that pretty much wrote itself lol, I love those :) and it owes it's existence to Ashley's picture. Much love to you Jess xx
