Sanctuary

A man in the corner
eating his lunch,
kids on the floor
like grapes in a bunch

Students at work
sweating exams,
an old man smiling
reading Voltaire

Researcher at task
looking for clues,
and a love lorn teen
slouched with the blues

The smell of books
a pleasure that's near,
A ridge in a page
the merest of tears

In libraries I find
my inner peace
surrounded in history
unread it weeps

Submersed within
the pages of time,
I leave my essence
amongst the lines

Its funny you know I love borrowing books from the library for the smell ,its just comforting or something LOL ... like a warm blanket tucked round you and the smell of a book on a rainy night ... peace on earth LOL ... on that note I am off to bed its 2 minutes to 4 lol and I got a big day today love and big hugs Jayne x x

You've captured magic here!

A wonderful write! I could feel the texture of the book covers and hear the whispered secrets that they hold within! Very well-done!

Dear Lonnie

I wrote this one IN the library ... and the people in the poem are real ... I actually knew a couple of them ... haha sooo if there is Magic it was the magic of the library ... unfortuntately our library has recently closed and the opened a newer more modern library but ... I has none of the charm of the wooden shelves the smell is similiar but yeah its just not the same ... and this was a sort of tribute to the place I found so many hours of peace and sanctuary ... love and hugs to you both Jayne x x x

A big smile poem

I love the way you have captured not only the diversity of people who frequent these magical places but the associated words used are excellent such as students and sweating exams and teens sloching blues. They paint a great picture of the scene but best of all I love the lines The smell of books a pleasure that’s near, It is the evoking of this one sense that takes me straight there...the smell of books...ahhhhh Seabhac

Dear Seabhac

Its funny I was sitting in the library ... I had a pad next to me i was researching something and I got distracted by an old man reading a book and the smile on his face was so serene lol and well I picked up the pen and looked around me ... and there is is lol ... I had forgotten about this until something someone said the other day lol took me two hours to go through old journals and find it ... but its pretty much as it was writen .. so glad you liked this one it was just a bit of fun ... love and big hugs Jayne x x x

Very atmospheric this

And the sound of a library, with the scraping of a chair shattering the silence, the sudden chatter of the librarian with a new challenge, the hush-hush of someone telling their children to be quiet in here, the people intent on something in their various books and the sunbeams catching the dust and the dreamy atmosphere as if the books were in a great big dormitory sleeping like the sleeping beauty, waiting to be rescued from obscurity. I enjoyed this visit to the library, in fact it was one of the nicest visits I have made so peaceful and everyday-comfortable. Dear Jayne with love Ann
