Cold Dreams

      Cold Dreams

Dreams of cold and darkened skies
   And sadness through and through
   Reaching back into the dark
Finding all the hell I knew

The hell I never speak of
The place I do not go
   Thoughts long ago forgotten
   Oh no, it isn't so

   Explain to me the reason
   Those thoughts of long ago
How is it now they surface
The pain I can't let go

   How does it intermingle
Join pain both now and then
   I thought I had forgotten
   If not now, then when

   Does the hurt  last forever
   Do the tears forever flow
   Will I live forever grieving
   Over things from long ago

Give me strength to overcome this
Give me courage to move on
Give me light to shed the darkness
Teach me words to my lifes song

Give me song birds in the morning
Give me sun to greet the day
Let me hear the childrens laughter
See a smile along the way

Let me feel that touch I need
Someone please, to hear my call
   Without that inner closeness
Then it means nothing at all.

hello

The rhyming and pacing are great and this piece flows well. I like the title. The content of the poem is something I can relate to very well as I have OCD and depression and was an abused child. One day I found out the key to all this pain was in being unable to forgive. It takes allot to find forgiveness within oneself, but it can be done. I started out by forgiving myself, because I had always had this deep dark feeling that everything was my fault. I hope that you find your peace someday. Your poem is very well written and deeply profound. My favorite lines are: Give me strength to overcome this Give me courage to move on Give me light to shed the darkness Teach me words to my lifes song Always, Cat

Hi Cat, I want to thank

Hi Cat, I want to thank you for such a nice response. It still amazes me that I carry baggage from so very long ago. One would think that after 50 years, the load would get lighter. I'm sorry that you can relate to this. In my own way, I wish no one did. I think I have at long last learned to deal with this particular issue. I wrote a poem about 2 months ago, in much more a direct way, that seems to have purged some of my demons. Thanks again for your support, and read. Sue

Hello Jetz!

This is an incredibly well crafted piece. No hysteria, just a constant, gentle pleading with the universe to move on from the past - to someone, something better! I hope the writing worked some magic for your personally - because after all - that is what it is - a great catharsis! Do create some more for us! bonita j

Hi Bonita, Your response

Hi Bonita, Your response was so very sweet, and right on the money. A catharsis, indeed. I'm still working on the "getting over" part, but, well on the right road. Thanks again. Sue

Jetz

A great piece, beautifully structured and you dropped in a chorus: Give me strength to overcome this Give me courage to move on Give me light to shed the darkness Teach me words to my lifes song Give me song birds in the morning Give me sun to greet the day Let me hear the childrens laughter See a smile along the way I can picture and feel the frustration and pain in this writing...I know you enough to know you are strong, but however strong we are, some days we are haunted by our past emotions and can't truly ever let go. As expected a tremendous piece of poetry, regards, HS ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "With all that I am and all that I could be, I walk this earth and yet nobody sees me".
