Mum... You and I

By: Rula

Together we witnessed time ebbs and tides:

we went through ups, we went through downs,

yet luckily we got each other's sides,

you and I, you and I.

Together, unwillingly, we grew old,

with devestating wrinkles, and white hair.

We both raised families, yet we're still bold

You and I, you and I.

Together we laughed, together we cried:

I uplifted your spirits, you got my tears wiped,

we stayed together, side by side,

You and, I you and I.

Together we lived for worse and better,

until Alzheimer's stole you, my bank of love,

although you promised to stay forever

You and I, you and I.

My Gold

By Mr joghe

In whom I spent my old days and nights,

Who rocked me in my cradle;

And fed my pretty mouth with a spoon,

Did weep while I should weep.

How much will I pay

For the pain you’ve taken for me?

Who worked that jumper to keep me warm;

Treated me with diffidence and respect,

Her healthy arms always be my stay,

And always admired my prudent face that filled with laughter.

How much will I pay

For the pains you’ve taken for me?

Who tired me with apology for being tiresome,

And asked twenty questions and never waited for an answer.

My timidity struck her at the first sight;

When she taught me to expect something extraordinary.

How much will I pay

For the pains you’ve taken for me?

I find such a pleasure

In obeying her commands,

That I take care to observe;

Shall soon come to bless me.

How much will I pay

For the pains you’ve taken for me?

I vow, I thought so;

Never, as among queens and princesses

In her age; to be explicit,

I’ve kept very little company

In pretty smooth dialogues with her.

How much will I pay

For the pains you’ve taken for me?

My Favorite Childhood Toy

No doubt there weren’t bounds to the toys
That as a not-so-small four-year-old boy
Could own at his home, in a dream-like world
As the real one spun, whirled and it twirled.

‘To imagine’ was the gift I was given
A fashionable passion without need for permission
From remote controlled cars with wings that were driven
To action men on a mission, I’d quickly envision.

Icarus and Me

Maybe I have flown too close to the sun
I never know when to stay and when to run.
Like Icarus, I wear the clouds as my crown.
Don’t get too close, for I will fall and drown.
Under the ocean, I am one with the waves
Swimming deep down under, lost in the caves
I try to surface but to no avail
I try to swim but I can only flail.
Jagged edges cut me, sharp pieces of shells
I thought I was in heaven, but this is hell.
I scream but all that comes out is bubbles
I am alone and surrounded by troubles.

The Old Porch Swing

Resting on the covered porch
Hanging from two aging chains,
Sits a metaphor for simple living
Recording life's losses and its gains.

A simple swing with aging pillows
That we bought back in sixty nine,
Has listened to our fears and dreams
And all the joy we hoped to find.

We were there just three years later
With a baby boy we had been blessed,
We would rock our son for hours,
To raise this child we'd do our best.

Wrong Doing

Leaders should lead with grace and humility,
Guiding with respect and empathy,
For when they disrespect others,
They tarnish their own legacy.

Thoughts

Thoughts on thoughts on thoughts
I never really gave them any thought

But as time goes on, my brain slowly rots
Forever consumed by my never-ending thoughts

Mindlessly clicking, scrolling, exploring
I wonder, does it ever get any less boring?

No, it doesn’t, but I can’t stop it now
It’s something my mind simply wont allow

I can’t let go of the memories we made
Each time you made my heart burn and ache

At the end of each day, it comes flooding back
Will these thoughts ever let me just sit and relax?

Dawn Hangs Low When Mist Abides

The walls have tears
when footsteps fall
in sorrowful ears.

Another Day

Here comes another day
I hope things will be ok
The rains have come, and things are green,
I look for things that are never seen!

I feel despair when others are sad,
I feel the anguish when people are mad.
I feel the shame when someone's bad,
I feel the joy when someone's glad

My heart it aches when it feels sorrow
Sometimes I wish there was no tomorrow.
For today is here, what should I feel
Yesterday just went and it didn't feel real.

Far From Home

The lights of the parking lot shine into the room,
As glaring at midnight as if it were noon.
Feels like I’m center stage in a reality show,
Everyone watching and I just don’t know
What my next line should be.

The curtains don’t close ’cause there’s no track to ride,
And they’d hang over the A/C if I tried.
No electrical juice in the wall outlets there.
My devices need feeding or I wouldn’t care.
And a lamp would be nice, though, to see.

Locked In a Basement

No idea how this happened

I’m completely in the dark…

Stay calm and don’t get maddened

This basement’s pretty stark

Must come up with something

I need a lightbulb moment

Desperate times, at straws I’m clutching

No vision and the scent here’s potent

I now empathise with blind men

Albeit for just one day

I'm feeling like a caveman

Without wall drawings on display

Thirsty like a duck out of water

And hungry like a whale

Alone like a lamb to the slaughter

Romance

Under the moonlight
shadow dance
you and I embrace
in a delightful stage
Share in the language
of romantic sparkle
with the happiness
filled our heart
celebrating the new
beginning of life
This marks the promise
of commitment
from god's grace gift
display of precious exude
with a sense of gratitude
granted from a wish
relish with a joy of blessing
for a final reunion
