Lost Love

By: Alex Tanner

Should I recall those blissful times
When we like climbing flowers entwined;
Our blossoms scented evenings air
As Love and Lust forsook our cares.

Your laugh was soft and gentle,
A butterflies wings in spring,
Dancing on the sunbeams
Enough to make me sing.

Eyes so bright they sparkled
Diamonds on moonlit snow;
Flashing hither and thither
To make my pulse race so.

We held each other gentle
Yet tight so not to break,
Though deep, our love could never last,
Different paths our lives would take.

For fleeting months we tarried,
Each time we met we knew
This may be the last time
For lovers hours are few.

If I love ten thousand women
Tis you I will recall;
You gave yourself so willing,
For your passion I did fall.

On black nights as the wind howls,
As I lie in a bed so cold,
Your soft voice echoes 'cross the years
To warm my lonely soul.

A way Out!

At night
it's hard to tell
what goes on there
or behind
It's dark and
so quiet that
only silence would bark.

So let's wait till morning's eye
Is kind enough to serve
a clearer sight

Only then we can both
find a way

Out

Confidential

Before you
I was blind
I crawled and cried
as a child

my thoughts
were mere doubts,
inner shouts
that howled
and ground my awe

until when
you intruded
and diluted
my heart
in the world
of words' art
and in you.

Sunflower

You remind me of the sun
You illuminate and sheen
You warm my heart
You delight me
So incredibly
in such way that
I'm blinded by you
But i can't desist looking
Im a sunflower
The sun is the reason
Why i kept my body and soul together
But the sun
Paid no attention
To a trivial thing like me

Shine

I've been looking for a place to sit
To put on paper what I think
I imagined myself in the middle of a forest
Where wind can calm my mental torment

Though it's nothing but a lie
'Cause I can't see it with my eye
So I wander around the town
To find my special place to sit down

I needed nature to be loud
I needed people to be silent
I needed not to be a part of a crowd
I needed my mind not to be violent

Novel approach to madness

Buckshot scattershot
shellshocked astronaut
Jason and the Argonauts
and Ulysses’ odyssey out to sea

Kill maim hop the freight
seventeen pieces of eight
walrus said time to fly
pirates on the wire scream alibis

It’s an uptight fright night
turn out the overhead lights
tears gone ducts dry
leave this senseless battle far behind

Twas ever thus or are we nuts
cobwebs grow matter molts
physical mental emotional breakdown
major league proportions no relief in sight

The Opposite of Toil

She was never like work. In fact,
she was like walking up to an amusement park
with crazy-colorful signs, always promising excitement.

Like cotton candy too; maybe a little messy,
but always better to have it, regardless
of the colorful disarray others may see.

Johnny, Come Home...

He stands a little straighter,
throws his shoulders back.
"My Country Tis of Thee"
his face no longer slack.

Wounded in his mind,
he was left upon the field.
He never came home at all,
and he will never yield.

He spends his days still fighting,
for his God and country.
His wife looks after him,
she prays, "Please come back to me."

Chubby

There was a gnome
who had a home
deep within the earth
and once a year
he would appear
to spread a little mirth.
His body stout
without a doubt
you could say
that he was chubby,
but the jokes he told
robust and bold
would expand
your under bellies
and when this gnome
had finished
he'd jump back in the hole
to come around the next year
to tell another joke!

Romance

Romance
Seeking someone
Expressing emotion
Feeling excitement face to face
Intrigue

Tree Hugger...

Tree Hugger...

When I awoke, I felt so bad,
I went to hug my favorite tree.
I thought about the fears I had,
No one would fear, but me.

"Too bad", I thought I heard it say
The bark, it scratched my face
I hugged it all the tighter
As my mind began to race

I'm losing it, I really am
"Too bad", I heard it say
Are my ears deceiving me?
Have I gone all the way?
