My Cup
My Cup
By Sybil Fulk
I never thought it would mean so much
To hold a cup that you once touched
One you had chosen just for me
With careful thought, so lovingly
I did not put much thought in to
The meaning of this gift from you
It seemed a small but thoughtful thing
But now this gift means everything
I place my lips upon its rim
And think of memories now dim
Of moments that we’d often share
While you sat in your favorite chair
I hold the cup close to my chest
The warmth of it can bring me rest
Knowing now your loving plan
To give a gift I’d understand
Its funny how something so small
Can be a comfort when I fall
Can wrap around my weary mind
And with its warmth, help me unwind
The mighty winds can blow apart
My tattered soul and broken heart
But I sit down and drink my tea
And hold the cup you gave to me
It offers not a hand to hold
Nor is it made of gleaming gold
But when I’m close to giving up
I think of you, and hold my cup

Hello Sybil
Welcome to Neopoet. Through this poem you have given us a glimpse of your poetic skill where you have transformed a tea cup to hold vivid memories of your loved one. Please continue to post your poems which must be many since you have said you have been writing since an early age and have an e book, Neopoet being a workshop site...please make sure that you also read and comment / critique works of others to establish a good synergy of give and take which would be to a mutual advantage...
Keep writing and share with us the flavors of your poetry...
regards..

A nice command...
of rhyme and rhythm. A few bobbles here and there, but nothing serious and I'm sure that you will figure them out. Welcome to Neo. and I hope that you will post more and join some of the workshops that are available. ~ Geezer.

a nice work
reminds me a little of Neruda's Odes to Common Things- about 50 items are covered- a spoon, plate, salt shaker- the poet finds in each a deeper meaning, while addressing the function and universal of the object.
Poems to common things are a great vehicle for expressing ideas, and this is a nice example.
