New Workshop( 11 September to 30 September)

Hi everyone
I will be running a workshop on using metaphors in place of emotions
there will be extensive writing involved as this is more of a hands on subject
metaphors are interesting but difficult . So between all of the participants we may be able to
1- sort out what exactly is a metaphor
2- how they are used(in our case in place of emotions)
3-why they are used
so come on in sign up and contribute to a learning experience

Comments

I am amused by the topic of the workshop because use of metaphors in poems here has been adversely criticized.

nice to see you around. Though I am not as active as before, yet I missed your presence. Hope all is well.
If you have some extra time, Chrys and I will sure be happy if you join us and the others.

ans yet people use metaphors to hide behind so they do not acknowledge reality and will not admit to their true feelings

Ok. So is the workshop about expressing true feelings instead of using metaphors?

raj (sublime_ocean)

To say something common in an uncommon way. Poetry is beauty in language. I think the metaphor is a marvelous tool to "beautify" our writing, but I confess I still have trouble using them to effect.

Fix that. Please.

I would have to search for a while to find a poem of mine that is clear of metaphors.
This workshop will show how much they are used in our writing.
It is a (hell of a) job to write simply and without them.
(I look forward to) the workshop, it, will be fun I hope.
(Cant go on) I will await your instructions lol,
Yours Ian ..

Is it good or not so good to use metaphors?

raj (sublime_ocean)

I would not be doing this workshop if I thought metaphors were not a super useful tool in writing
but I am but one opinion and I think that is the answer right there it is a matter of a persons opinion whether they feel they are good or not.

I think they are useful in keeping a poem from being just another write about whining. "Drops of dew fracture my silver pool" might be a bit better than "I cry tears of a broken heart".......stan

Very nice example

hmmm. Not sure if it communicates the same emotion of heart broken..

I am sorry, but could you take me off of the workshop list,
at the moment, what with the way things are going here I think I shall stay away from the group, I am not collecting comments or critique at the moment just moans from some that drop in on the odd occasion and rarely comment on my work so I am finding my words are becoming obsolete.
I may return to writing comments and critique at a later date but am not sure, the words no matter what, :- You have no new updates. Keep writing! are beginning to be abrasive to my ways.
Yours as always, to you both, Ian..

only if that is what you really want as I do not see how this workshop has anything to do with the situation you describe here. Perhaps I will leave you there in the event you have a mind change how is that ok with you?

I wish you would participate. You always lend an element of fun to any workshop and a shop on metaphors is going to need some chuckles. This is in the Shark Pool for good reason.
Metaphors are difficult to understand much less use effectively, but you seem to have a grip on them. Your input would be invaluable.
