Oh! With What Unspeakable Anguish
Oh! With what unspeakable anguish
Do I regret the vocation
I came so close
And so oft to having,
The sweet acclamation
That might have been mine.
Had I tried and failed,
That would scarcely concern me,
Yet, I squandered my resources
Time and time again,
And failed so unnecessarily,
That is what so torments me.
I only wish I could contemplate
More than a mere handful
Of past achievements with pride
And satisfaction,
But even this paltry compensation,
Remains stubbornly beyond me.
Oh! With what unspeakable anguish
Do I regret the vocation
I came so close
And so oft to having
The sweet acclamation
That might have been mine.

Dear Carl
I always wanted to be a lawyer, or a violin player in a posh band! I once played guitar in the Royal Albert Hall though, I was 8! I wonder what it is you missed out on I'm just curious?
Love this subject I have a massive list of things I would have been, including space lady.
Thank you...Teddy

Hi Teddy...
That is impressive! The two things I missed out on, and when I say missed out on, well I should say, repeatedly snatched defeat from the jaws of victory, and I came close on both counts, time and again, are success as an actor, and success as a singer. It can really eat at me but not always, but not always, the feelings come and go. Space lady? Wow, I wanted to be an astronaut as a 12 year old, but that passed. Carl.

Dear Carl
Thank you for responding to my question, yes acting and singing are a really hard industry to crack. Now days the TV is full of " celebrities" it's quite sad really. I also believe you have to be in the right place at the right time. I wish you much fortune it's never too late. Astronautess I shall never be but actually maybe I will? Never lose hope of your passion right?
Thank you...Teddy

I hope so...
Absolutely, Teddy, never lose hope of your passion, or dream. Acting and singing are hard yes, i came so close, and was in the right place at the right time repeatedly, but somehow managed to talk my way out of it every time. I know what you mean about celebrity culture, terrible...I do try and avoid it. Bye for now. Carl.

Hi C Lynn...great to hear from you again...
It is yes, it was composed during a periodic 'low', and I can be very down on myself during these periods and almost wallow in it, but they do lessen in severity after a time. And we do all have our regrets of course, some worse than others. Carl.
