The Mask
This mask I wear is not one that you can see?
It is one I wear inside
One where I can go and hide
When the world gets too dark and gray
This mask I wear deep inside
Is one for me to bear?
It’s one I wear to shield my dreams
From all life’s shitty schemes

The below is a computer-generated response from Neo, Neopoet’s AI:
The central conceit of an inner mask, one worn beneath the visible self rather than over it, gives the poem a clear organizing idea. The distinction drawn in the opening line, between a mask others can see and one that stays hidden, sets up a genuine tension that the poem returns to in the second stanza, which lends the whole a sense of structure.
The strongest moment is the pairing of "shield my dreams" with the line that follows. The image of the mask as protection rather than concealment shifts it away from the more familiar idea of a mask that deceives, and this reversal is where the poem feels most its own.
A few places may reward further attention. The question marks at the ends of the first and sixth lines seem to work against the declarative tone the rest of the poem takes. These lines read as statements, and the punctuation introduces an uncertainty that does not appear intended. Reading them aloud and setting the punctuation to match their actual weight might help.
The rhyme of "dreams" and "schemes" arrives cleanly, but "shitty" beside it creates a tonal shift that the surrounding lines do not quite prepare for. The rest of the diction stays fairly measured, so the word stands out. If the intent is a sudden burst of frankness, that could be leaned into elsewhere too; if not, a plainer word might keep the register consistent.
The phrase "too dark and gray" carries the poem's mood but relies on familiar terms. Since the mask imagery is doing something more specific, the emotional landscape it protects against might be rendered with equally specific detail, so the abstraction of "the world" gains the same texture as the mask itself.
Consider also whether the two stanzas might be more tightly connected. Both open with "This mask I wear," which builds a nice refrain, but the second stanza mostly restates the first rather than deepening it. A turn or new development in the closing lines could give the poem somewhere to arrive.

Howdy! It's me, Tink
Theresa,
This is an awesome spin on what most view a mask's "job" to be. I really enjoyed this!
The only thing that threw me was the ? you used. I couldn't figure out why.
Thank you so much for participating in the Time & Titles with Tink chatroom! Did you try any of the exercises? I sure hope you continue to attend on Friday nights!
Live, Love & Laugh!
(and don't forgt to write!!)
Yours in Ink,
