Early Rising

It's 5 am,
pitch dark and rather cold.
Above, his wife untroubled in her sleep.
Alert for sounds of motion
but contented,
he sits
and softly prays.
"My God you know I'm grateful for all kindness,
one tiny thing I miss,
the day-star rising
... locked as I am
- within
----a tight
------routine."

Shrill calls punctuate
trills and chirrups.
Enchanting little tweedles add support.
Heralds announce!
An intimation of light
breathes
and bathes the horizon.
Darkness
yields to form.
Stark trees
outlined in fresh blues
with ribbons of washed rainbow above.
Dawning.
More bird-song
as shapes meld into shadow.
Grey, brooding sky.
False dawn,
an allegory of life?

Hopes raised:
unfulfilled.

No!

Dawn
will
come.

Well. There were days and nights I wish I could erase from life. But, I just have to live with them. Healthy contemplation. God read.

It was a way of life for many years as the sole carer for my wife who took three strokes over that time. But it never felt like a burden and I did not know how much it had taken out of me 'till at least a couple of months after she died (of a heart attack).

It must very hard. I do not find words to express. All I know is that life is filled with memories.

Not one bit of it. It was an honour and a pleasure to look after my wife in exactly the same way she would have done for me.

A well written existential quandary. The read is a small journey, with a definite narrative and reminds me of those times where I stretch my mind across horizons for perspective on my situation. Thank you.

True but inexplicable. It really lifted my spirit at just the right time.
