Anne

Anne it was, my sole desire, those many years ago.
Anne it was, who split the world, I had come to know.
Anne it was, Anne it is, that pierces heart and soul.
Awake it’s Anne, in dreams it’s Anne, I’ll never now be whole.

My heart was cold, its now afire, she bestirs my peace.
My soul was dead, it trembles now, in such a hot release.
If only Anne, if only Anne, if only Anne could see.
The war that rages deep within, her own I’d surely be.

If only Ann could see this poem! How could she resist! :)

Plenty of emotions in this passionate poem. :)

Can't see anything to improve - excellent poem.

Opening stanza.
I ditto Mand's comment. This almost puts tears into my eyes.

for your kind words. I foolishly tried to post a sister poem to this before commenting but not for the first time the software collapsed part way, now I can't post it for another twenty four hours. Mia Culpa.

I can't believe it. That poem is lost no more. I'm sure I'll never understand how software works.
Spoke too soon. Can't find it again.

Real passion and so beautifully written. I've loved and lost family members who I deeply cared about, but never a life soul mate. In fact if I'm truely honest, I don't think I've ever had a life soul mate like you have had, but that doesn't mean I don't understand.
I'm sure our loved ones are with us, that belief helps me. Jx

is my wife's name and she would have been rather cross to think I might refer to her as Anne. No, this poem is about the star crossed lovers in Jane Austen's Persuasion. The writer is a captain Wentworth whom Anne had been persuaded by her best friend to refuse an offer of marriage as he had nothing to recommend himself but his self. He had, as it were, neither fortune nor prospects. In fact she loved him then and thought his chances of making his way in the world would be far higher without her as an anchor round his neck.

Ah well, that's my misunderstanding.
Yes, I have read Persuasion, but I hadn't made the connection. I had thought it was your passion, but that's a credit to your writing skills :-) Jxx
