Empathy

There are few people

in the world today

who care for others

with empathy as you do

Anyone who’s part of your world

feels honoured

to spend time with you.

Birds, they come to rest

on your windowsill

They tap their beaks on the glass

with insistence

When you open your window

they don’t fly away

in your presence.

Stray cats are drawn to you

instinctively unafraid

Waiting in the shadows

for a special treat

you share love

as they settle

warmly at your feet.

A fox on the run

stops to look at you

its long pointed mouth

looks like a smile

It turns to flee

the foxhunt, you cringe

believing hunters are vile.

Homeless people

all know you by name

you give them your heart

as well as food

Someone like you

and everything you do

is all for the greater good.

There’s a special place

that God keeps warm

for his blessed elite

A halo of light

radiates from your existence

and leaves its energy

on everyone you meet.

I loved that flow and feel of using the animals and individual perspectives. Great read. There is just a few of those elite out there, they are very speacial. At the end of your first stanza your missing the word "with". Besides that it was eye candy luv. Thumbs up. Julie D.D.

Hi!

If I may, I'd like to offer a fix to: "it’s long pointed mouth" "It's" here being the possessive form of the sound of it's, the proper spelling comes out its. Many people are confused on this. You may not be---I don't know---perhaps it's just a typo. It's is the contracted form for "it is." I like the tone of your piece. It'd be a good message for a young'un to hear, something for to emulate in any/all dealings with other creatures of whatever stripe. There's of course another insight to be recognized: i.e., a person in at least a pseudomeditative state while out-looking, a person who's at ease with self, a person who listens with whole heart and not just with ears, who's comfortable with closeness/intimacy, who's able to touch/be touched w/o inner conflict rudely interjecting. And more, of course, much unfathomable, a feelness only, a withness unavailable (apparently) to many/most. Too many marvel at such a "gifted" person w/o then following up by embracing the model until it's possessed also by such onlookers. Possessed, that is, until it becomes part of the core of the person open to the possibility. I think very small children have special insight into such magnetism, an insight that gets (routinely) educated away by society's (and her representatives') imposed straitjackets, by her schools, by her (society's) incessant socializings in the ways of whatever's deemed proper. Enough already. Now I bore myself. Philosophizing, after all, has little interest for me. Connectedness I value highly. Extremely highly. Thanx for the prompting. Yours, Chuck

Thanks Chuck

for spotting that...it's a common mistake that I sometimes get confused with, but in this case I hadn't noticed. When you think about it...it's...it is long pointed nose, doesn't make sense. Cheers Chuck and thanks for lovely comment. Rosina xena465

I thank you compassionate Rosina

Ann of Norway This is a poem to my mother, it is she who bears all these traits, well now no longer with us, gone; yet when your words flowed out they were describing her, no doubt. And you didn't meet her although you could have done, she lived in Helensburgh, and all you have said about empathy here fits her, the birds waited, watching for her window to open, the animals were not frightened of her as they knew that she was kind instinctively. So for that I am reminded so much of her that I thank you compassionate Rosina for this resurrection of her, thank you mother for all you were for us in our lives, we loved you dearly. Love Ann.X

I've only known a few people that I've described in this poem, my mum too was a kind gentle lady who died much too young. Rosina xena465
