Life Mates

Life Mates

Deep in the woods she roams... alone
Light filtering through ..
Warmth from the sun ever changing the scents
Her senses ever keen.....even more aware
Her mate...is missing

  As she howls
    a teardrop falls
  To her soul
    she feels the pain
  'Til her mate
    is there beside her
  Deep within
    the void remains

He.....always on the alert
Wanders off....scouting..
His territory...
Ever expanding
Knowing she is the keeper of his den

He hears her howl in the distance
the pain is inside of him too
  But he...forever the hunter
he knows this is what he must do

Days end...the moon rises
Still again..she is alone
She circles the den
Breathing in deeply where he last lay
Feeling his absence to her very core

   As she howls
    a teardrop falls
  To her soul
    she feels the pain
  'Til her mate
    is there beside her
  Deep within
    the void remains

The miles now separate..
He thinks only of the hunt
Driven purely by instinct
The hunt...the blood....
Ultimately....the kill.......but..

He hears her howl in the distance
the pain is inside of him too
   But he...forever the hunter
he knows this is what he must do

      She.....his love like no other..
      He......her spriritual twin..
      She.....his mate for a lifetime
      He......she carries within

Truly Soul mates..
Hands of Fate...
The luck of the draw..
Something to contemplate...
For whatever the reason
What powers may be
He lives within  her
She lives within he.

fabulous!

Nicely done. I would not change a thing. Well describes angst of separation when the body wished for is not near, but well pronounces the heart's perseverance in loyalty -- something that is lacking in the world of humans. I can only assume this is a tale concerning wolves. Victor Claude

Hi Victor,

Thanks for taking the time to both read and respond. Your assumption is mostly correct, although, some humans can and do remain loyal to their 'Life Mates.' Once again, thank you. Sue

Hi Licia, Very nice of you

Hi Licia, Very nice of you to take the time to read and respond. As I have stated, wolves have a special meaning to me. This is so much more than a poem. With all the "love" poems I have written, and I have written many, this is by far the most precious to me. Thanks. Sue
