Remembering Grandma

A matriarch with hidden kindness,
craving to cry,  longing to love,
fearing to do either

She was stronger than I,
more full of elder lore and dignity,
forgoing pleasure for purpose

Uncommon passions dwelt beneath
the mask of her sterness,
and the intense will to dominate

I never liked, but loved her,
she never loved, but cared,
we both grew tolerant with time

She spoke,  I listened,
she taught,  I obeyed,
she is gone,  I am diminished

Thank you Jayne!

This is an updated version of a poem I wrote several years ago when my Grandmother passed away. I never had posted it anywhere before so I guess in a way, I was saving it for Neopoet!

Beautiful Poem, Sir:

When I was born, my Grandparents from my mother's side had passed away already. So I only remember my other Grandmother, who lived a short while while I was young. Then again she fits into the description of your Grandmother. Thank you Mr. L for bringing this that I may consider a tribute for those caring souls. Sincerely, Hugo

Thanks Hugo!

This poem was a difficult one to write as I had many mixed emotions when my Grandmother passed on. She was indeed a powerful woman who could be both terribly cruel and yet kind if she so chose. Glad you enjoyed this!

Lonnie...

I am not used to seeing freeform by you, this is done well! Strong content, easy for most to jump in and feel it. I was talking about my Grandmother the other day, I spent a lot of time there... but if you went to her with an ailment, no matter what it was... castor oil... she believed in it! I miss her. Richard
