The Very End of Never Street (P.S. I Love You)
It's better to have loved and lost
than never loved at all
but if you've loved
and lost
what chance you got
to ever love again?
You see, I've read the book
I've seen the film
but life aint like a movie screen
it's a silent scream
when all I want's the old way
just give me the cliche or
leave me alone
There's plenty more fish
in the sea
but hey, I just can't swim
like I used to
I'm used up
from still loving you
I'm flogging a dead horse
You were my lobster
(they mate for life, apparently)
and lobster's off the menu
Put me to bed
and tuck me up with a dream
Love, truth and
romance, bursting it's seams
fuck me
like tomorrow might never come
shower me with promises
meaning every one
find the girl in me who went a-walking
stay up with me all night talking
only parting when the rainbows meet
at the very end of Never Street
Make me laugh 'til my belly aches
look me in the eye
so my heart breaks
shattering into pieces of joy
Oh Boy
find me another you
with real ears I can whisper into
with actual hands I can high five
fingers to point out the beauty of just being alive
breathing, teasing, playing, staying
hold me 'til the cold subsides
abide with me
until he arrives
Let him be laden with longing
brimming with hope
grant me the scope
to welcome him
in, somewhere only you have been
let me go, so he might see
whatever it was you worshipped in me
Ok, show me a new way
of bending
bring me the Hollywood ending
yes, a new way, a new day
but still drenched in the cliche
than never loved at all
but if you've loved
and lost
what chance you got
to ever love again?
You see, I've read the book
