A Tyrant's Madness

A wraith in the night
Dark embered eyes
face of granite
Preying on the weak
Seeking out the marked

Innocence of light
Stranger to dark
they are his purpose
Their only crime their race
Punishment and persecution
his Reign of insanity

Cloaking purpose with good intentions
Segregation a joke
herding them like beasts
Weaving his evil spell

False security abounds
Knowledge hidden from sight
Religion a mark to be carried
Their sacred Books burned

Unveiled their innocence
A revelation
herded into carriages'
eternity awaits
their destination
chambers of death

Their ashes floating
carrying a story
of hope lost
lives wasted
Dreams gone

But as the phoenix
their ashes arose
Flying

The wraith
A distant memory
never to be forgotten
His blood-lust his madness

Annihilated ..

Seren,

I read this and found I was unable to comment. So I reread it after taking a break and have now pulled myself together enough to leave a comment. The German title, of course, got my attention. And I found a piece dealing with a painful truth. All the more painful for me, because it has happened in my country of birth. May I ask what triggered this write? I would also like to share my memory of visiting Yad Vashem, but it is hard to describe. A dark spacious cavern Soft voices humming Millions of candles Like stars across the firmament Each of them symbolizing Shattered hopes Destroyed dreams A life taken Because of a madman´s ramblings A sadist´s twisted fantasies Well, this is the best I can do now. Maybe I will be able to write a real poem about this soon. Yours, ~Nina

I knew this would be a

I knew this would be a sensitive subject , so i hope i did it justice , and i wasn't writen with hate in my heart but sorrow ..... I think of all the lives that where lost and think of all the art that didnt get painted , of all the poems that didnt get writen , of all the great symphonies that where never composed and it makes me want to weep .. Such a loss .. We should never forget what happened , so that we might not make the same mistakes again ..where ever on the planet we are .. What an incredible experience it would have been to visit Yad Vasham and a humbling one .. I just hope this hasnt upset you unduely , it was never meant to hurt but to honor the dead .. As a matter of fact, it IS upsetting,

for all the reasons you mentioned, JayC. But not unduly so. If it ever stops being upsetting, I will have turned to stone. Yours, ~Nina P.S. Yes, it was an incredible experience. Incredibly sad. To see all those little flames and to know that their number is the exact number of the people who were murdered... Somehow, that makes it more real than just reading or hearing a number.
