Nevermore

I gaze upon this mirror
and recount the life which has passed.
Marvelled at the crevices on my face
which tell a story from this man's past.

I had my fun
and my yachts
my expensive toys, too.
I've spent hundreds of thousands of dollars.
And still, my fortune grew.

I've dabbled in stocks
the best bonds
and the finest portfolios
All which turned around in spades
and became something glorious.

But now, I'm old and tired.
My love, she passed years ago
I've been a shell since that day
and I'm quite ready to go.

I'm at peace and comfortable
unlike the times from before
and I'm waiting for the day
when my existence is no more.

Jess...

although I've read some Grisham, not the one mentioned... liked your poem, but to me, and maybe it's just me... it seems impersonal... maybe the character needs a name... instead of Nevermore which put me in mind of Michael Jackson... except the part about the lady didn't fit... I don't know... hmmmmmm... it did have me thinking, and that is always good. Richard

A good entry here.

I liked the content, and you can get a feel for the character in your words, but i agree with Richard on this one.The character would let the poem stand out better if given a name. And with the name, you might consider adding a stanza.Apart from that, this write is put together well. Your friend,in peace, Scott.
